Help! I'm trying to decide if it makes sense for me to updgrade my current WDW AP to a Premier, and I think it might save me some money on a hotel night. Is there any way and AP could get online and see what the AP rate is for Disneyland Hotel-Standard Room for 1/14/2015?

I have tried to call, but they gave me a rate that is HIGHER than the non-AP rate I can see online!!

Thanks so much!
Kim

1/14/15 came up as $247 plus tax and fees for a standard room at the DLH. The non-AP rate (that I saw) was $263 plus tax and fees. These prices are based on two adults in the room.

Are you only going for that one night? I'm not an AP holder anymore, so can't check the rate for you, but if you're only going for that one night then there's no way upgrading to a Premiere AP will be cheaper than just getting hoppers. Hotel savings are usually only 10%, maybe 20% (sometimes a little more in slow times) off the rack rate.

Thank you so much for checking that for me! We are actually going out for the Star Wars race and we had to book 3 nights with the travel company to get my son's race registration. This is an extra night, we decided to go out early. I'm trying to decide whether upgrading my AP would be worth it with hotel, merch and dining discounts :)

Do you have a premium pass for WDW or just a regular AP? If just a regular, I don't think you'll make up the difference in discounts by upgrading to a Premier. If you already have a Premium for WDW then it might make sense since a 4-day hopper is $250, a 5-day is $288.

DLR has pretty generous dining (10%-15%) and merchandise discounts (20%) for Premium/Premier AP holders, but whether it's worth it to upgrade will depend a lot on how many days you plan to enter the parks. The price for the Premier AP is about $1062.5. The price to upgrade depends on which WDW AP you have.

The Premier costs OVER $1000. It's good, and is a discount, if you need a Premium AP to both parks. Otherwise it's rarely truly worth it to upgrade. Run the numbers just based on admission as a first step. Then go from there.

And they don't prorate. So if you're halfway through your FL AP year, you'll only get half the year with the DL portion for full price.

What race is your son running? If he's not doing the 5K on Friday morning, you may be better off staying in an airport area hotel on Thursday night, then arriving at the resort Friday morning.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I ran the numbers and because I can get a good deal on my ticket from the race travel provider, it makes more sense to stay offsite the first night and then move to DLH on Thursday AM.

I will just have to get used to not getting an AP discount on everything like I do at WDW.
