Need help for issue with garage door remote.

A Sears from 2006? Very likely the transmitter gave up the ghost. Finding replacement parts is probably going to be a challenge.

If you decide to go new, whatever you do don't buy a Chamberlain/Lifemaster, the company is nothing but a data gathering/advertising company. They've removed features so they can force you to get served advertising if you use the phone app.

We have a different problem -- sunlight. The house we bought in July faces east. If we leave the house in the morning and it's sunny (hello, Florida!), the sensors think there's an obstruction. Total pain in the pitootey. The control by the back door can work to override it, but it means one of us getting out of the car, putting the garage door down, and then leaving through the front door.
I live in central Florida and had that issue. But, an empty toilet paper roll, cut in 1/2, with some tape shields the sensors just right. Problem solved.

Yes, if it's the transmitter, I wouldn't even try. Our other one is from 2002.

Just thought, it's all of a sudden with issues. Just thought is was dead battery.

I somewhat disagree. I have a new chain-drive Chamberlain, but with no WiFi/Bluetooth. To me, it's just another feature and security concern that I don't need.

Won't open and close.

I get no flicker of lights or anything to show it's connected.

I'll go try another time. Who needs a gym, just climb up and down ladder all day.
So the light DOES go out when you program it?

Stupid question, have you tried the transmitter close (while you're on top of the ladder) to the opener?

The light does goes off after 15 secs. And yes, all attempts have been while standing on ladder, so 2 ft away at most. Tried with garage door open and closed. Don't know if that matters, but who knows.

Thanks to all for the advise.

Not sure what to do at this point. Starting to sound like I just need a new opener. I just hate to buy a new opener when all it needed was a remote. That's why I went this way.

Just my thoughts...

From watching the video, it looks like the programming light should go out when the button on the remote is pressed and held. If the light goes off after 15 seconds, that sounds like a "time out", and it's not getting the signal from the remote.

So, either the remote isn't transmitting (possibly no battery) or the opener isn't receiving. Do you have a second remote that works? Or a "built in" in a car? If a second remote (or car) works, then the opener is good.

At this point, I would first send back the one you ordered from Amazon (unless you want to void the warranty and open it to see if there's a battery in it). Go to a hardware store (Lowes, Home Depot, Menards, etc) and get another remote and try programming again.

If that doesn't work, THEN I think a new opener is needed.

Good luck!

The wall mounted wired button does work.

If the door opens/closes using the wall mounted button, then the drive mechanism is clearly not the issue. You can often find instructions on youtube about how to program a new remote. Sometimes the included instructions aren't clear or assume certain things that aren't obvious when trying to program it.

I had a repairman fix mine. It cost less than a new one.
How old was your's? And what percentage cost wise was the repair to a new one? I'm all for making for repairs, but not if it's one part after another.

Opener does work with wired button on wall. Car doesn't have transmitter, it's from 92. Just spend 30 mins looking in garage through stuff that might be needed one day, don't see second remote. DH is looking now. But yes, I think will try homedepot. Again since it had the number of the opener on it's description at amazon, I had high hopes.

Returning remote to amazon. Same tiny box inside huge box that was sent.

The wired button on the wall won't tell you if the receiver in the opener is functioning. As @_19disnA said, it does tell you the mechanical side is working.

Good luck!

Well, new chapter in this saga. This morning I hit the button on the wall and door moved 1/2 inch and stopped. So I'm guessing that's the end.

Since the other one is from 2002 (but still works), we are getting both replaced. Hoping they last longer than we need.....another 15-20 years would be nice.

I have always replaced my own. Been in my house 41 years, the house is 45 years old, and we are on our third opener. Put up a new Genie a few months ago. I was put off a bit by the instructions since it came completely disassembled, but I had it up in a few hours. I found getting the belt installed on the rail a little intimidating, but I got it to work. My previous ones were all chain drive. This is sure a lot quieter.

Sorry. It could be worse. At least with a broken opener, you can still use the door. A number of years ago the torsion spring broke on ours. No opening or closing the door, so we were pretty much trapped.

This will be our third set of openers. I had replaced one years ago, but it was same model. Basically just the power unit. And it was a chain. These new ones will be belts. Doing the whole thing myself is too much now. DH wouldn’t be able to help beyond handing a wrench to me.

We have two doors, so still can get out with the one openers. But years ago, we had a spring snap. Family room is next to garage, we hear a loud noise, after looking around, we discovered the spring.

But at least we are in spot we can afford to get them replaced without too much worry. I love saving money , all those sale prices at grocery stores and discount codes are great, but every now ad again you just need to fix it without hunting for three months for the best price.

I'm 67 and I wondered if it would be too much physically. Like I said, the process of installing the belt was mentally challenging, had it all laid out on the floor. Loop this over that, around this, then than. without twisting it. Physically wasn't a big deal as the opener isn't all that heavy. Just prop it up on the ladder, bolt the end of the opener above the door, then my wife supported the power unit while I bolted it up

Getting a universal remote to troubleshoot is a good solution. I’ve had to replace my own garage door remote before, and sometimes it’s just the internal button contacts that wear out over time. If you try a universal remote and it still doesn’t work, then the main unit might need a check.

When my garage door opener acted up, I discovered the issue wasn’t the remote but the sensors and alignment. If you’re not sure or it starts feeling like a bigger fix, United Garage Door Repairs has some solid services for figuring out problems like these.

Thanks for the idea, but we ended up replacing the whole thing.....switched from chain to belt, battery back up.
