Need help for family in need

I have to say I think LollipopMom and others are getting a bad rap.

I think the problem here came with the title of the thread. I had to re-read the post also. It should have been titled "Need help for a family in need OF COMFORT or OF CHRISTMAS CHEER"

In these hard times for many, a family "IN NEED" usually means financially burdened/homeless/no electric/heat/food. I don't think anyone was intentionally being "hateful".

I realize you say the widow and her family members were willing to pay for a MOD or DELUXE resort, but as a woman who was widowed with a 2 month old (17 yrs ago), I would suggest she stay at the less expensive POP, giving the children a wonderful experience at a DISNEY resort, and save the extra money for the coming months/years as she will likely need it for more important things, i.e. bills, food, educational costs.

God bless her and her little ones.

DIS-ers,

I am hoping someone out there can sprinkle some pixie dust on a family in great need of it. Here is the situation:

We have a family that is close friends/relatives (cousins) of my in-laws. We travel to cottages in Northern Wisconsin for a week with their family(including their 2 daughters, husbands, and their grandchildren), spend Christmas Eve and some other days with their family and their daughters have kids the age of ours, etc. Anyway, their youngest daughter's husband was killed 2 months ago in a motorcycle accident about 1/2 mile from his house when a farm tractor was riding on a highway without any lights on after dark and he ran into the tire on the tractor at 55 MPH. He was a great guy and left behind a 30-year old widow and a S(1) and D(3). As you can imagine this has been devastating to everyone affected, but especially his wife and kids.

The widow, her sister, and mom, have decided to take the DD(3), whose favorite thing in the world are princesses, and sister's dd (2) to WDW January 9-14th to get away and try to do something fun for the kids. As a yearly Disney visitor and as someone who has watched their incredible suffering, I think that would be a great thing for them to do.

The problem, and where I need to ask for help, is two-fold:

1. They called this week to make reservations and the only things open were some very high-end suites (I assume from my wife talking to them that they meant concierge) and rooms at Pop Century. Due to difficult financial issues due to the husband's death, they couldn't afford the concierge rates quoted and went ahead with a reservation at Pop. However, they really want to stay at a Mod or maybe AKL or WL, to get the better surroundings and room size. This is the first trip to WDW for most of them and they want to make it special. I am hoping that under the circumstance something other than concierge can become available, with the help of pixie dust.

2. Disney is an amazing company when it comes to making magic happen for those in need. I know I have witnessed it and many of you have as well. If there is ever a family, and a little girl and mother especially, that are in need of magic happening to lift their spirits, even for a few days, this is it. Is there anyone out there that could help make this trip one that truly makes magic happen?

I know how wonderful and big-hearted the DIS-board folks are and I am hoping someone is out there in a position as an employee or with connections to WDW to help out in a time of great need. Thanks a million.

Kuj

For the OP Kuj, I think you should change the title to correctly describe what you are asking. I don't think it is family in need based on what I've read. Maybe something like "booking questions for January 2008"

Again, sorry for the loss..

Again, there are hundreds of families in MUCH worse situations

This is just one of the most insensitive comments I've read on the Dis in a long time.... :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

I said something similar to this. I also feel that if it were titled and worded differently than none of the backlash would have happened. There's a lot of anger on this post and this is JMO but I don't feel the OP wanted it this way at all. He/she was looking for advice and it did not happen that way due to the way the post was titled and worded.

I think everyone should get their last comments in on this thread. This really doesn't have much to do with resort planning anymore.

I just dont understand why everyone has to be so judgemental. Could the title have been worded a little differently? Sure...but the last time I checked, this was a message board, not English Class. We all love Disney here, I just wish we could all practice a little more restraint. It is pretty obvious (at least to me) that the OP meant no harm or disrespect.

This is truly the most wonderful time of year...so lets spread some Christmas cheer, rather than criticism.

More importantly, I hope the family has a wonderful stay!!

You know, my kids would love POP. The only reason we haven't stayed there is that I don't want to. I'm sure your friend's kids will love Pop Century if they stay there. It also has those family suites if her party ends up being more than four (or is that All Stars, one of the values has family suites). Good luck with helping your friend. If it's her first family trip, she will have a great time, and over-planning might actually put a damper on the experience rather than enhance it.

I total agree with you but unfortunately the damage has already been done. I hope this will not stop the OP from posting again and I truly hope that he/she is able to accomplish what they started out to do. No matter where this family stays, I hope they have a magical trip.:grouphug:
