Need help for DIY St. Maarten Day

Hi,

We will be on the Eastern Fantasy in a few weeks. Does anyone have some ideas on how to do a great DIY day? We'd like to hit the beach where the airplanes land, get some sun, and do a little shopping. Should we just get a taxi off the ship? Any ideas on can't miss things to do?

We like to rent a car and explore! You can reserve a car with Hertz and a few others. Pickup/shuttle is right at the port. The island is very small. Yes, go see the airplanes land, but there are much nicer beaches around the island for sunning. Shopping in Marigot is fun, plenty of French made products.
