We have a Bible College graduation to attend this spring and they have a dress code of no spaghetti straps, no short skirts, etc... I need to find a dress for my 16 yr old DD and I've spent 3 hours on the net, trying to find one that she would like to wear.

I'm not having much luck! Even in the malls, most of the dresses have skinny straps and/or short. She doesn't like blazer-type jackets and a skirt & blouse combination would be difficult to find for her, as most skirts are short for teens.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Claudia, I know there are a few dresses at my store that might fit the bill.

Do you have a Maurices in your area? Ours has a ton of really cute Spring dresses right now. I couldn't find pics of them on the website, but I remember them having several that were long.

Have you tried Alloy.com? The site doesn't want to work for me right now, but they have clothes for her age, and I think it even has a feature where you can sort long and short dresses.

Good luck!

Claudia, I was at the mall this wkd.. in the Jr's section at JCPenney they had some VERY nice skirts and matching tops that were of a lightweight multicolor floral (kindof) material.. the skirts were longer and the tops were not bare. I think that they would be appropriate for that type of affair. Wet Seal also has some kind of flowy dresses.. too. Hope that helps.. God Bless Mom's who shop for Teens!:)

Does she have to wear a dress? A few of my friends graduated from a conservative Christian college last year, and I wore a modest wrap shirt and nice pants. (The shirt was white, and I think from Talbots, and the pants were well cut (i.e. not skanky)suede with laser detail on the hems. I was 19 when I wore it, but an outfit like that would be appropriate for a 16-year-old, I think.

If I were sixteen, I wouldn't want to wear a blazer, either! I'm fighting against it now and I'm 20!

Old Navy has long floral skirts right now that are pretty cute. Maybe one of those with a 3/4 sleeve top or even a cap-sleeved (if those are allowed) shirt would look cute. They also have a couple of cute long dresses that would look nice and young with maybe a tailored denim jacket (not like a blazer, but a little more slim-fitting) to go on top of it?

My DD got all her prom gowns from JC Penney. I'm pretty sure none of them had spaghetti straps...but that was over five years ago too...don't know how much the styles have changed. The prices were very reasonable too.

If you haven't found one yet try this:

I was in this store just two days ago. Its advertised as "clothing your father would approve of". I bought my DD a pair of shorts here. We looked at their prom type dresses too (just for fun) and they were lovely!
