Need help finding a new digital camera

Hello,
I need a little help... "Digital camera's for dummies"
DH is in Iraq and I need to buy a new digital camera for our upcoming trip. DH is the computer/camera/Mr Wizard person in our household so I'm a little lost as to where to start.
I would like to be able to:
*Take good quality photos of the kids indoors/outdoors
*Easy downloading on to laptop and printer
*Some functions but not so many that I can't operate the thing
*A quality camera that wont break the bank but one that DH won't roll his eyes at when he gets home.

Any ideas???

Is the Canon S3 IS coming out soon then?
I have until May 19th minus a few days to get the hang of it.

It should be out by then. The Canadian release date is 4th week of April.

I have the S2 and really enjoy it. The S3 has some nice additional features.
