Hi many of my friends here may know that I fell down the stairs and broke my leg. I will be non weight bearing for about 8 weeks give or take if all goes well. I am already being bugged to return to the office. They allow me to bring my children but I currently have a six month old. I am trying to find the best place to hire a babysitter/helper to help me out and babysit my little one while I work. I wanted to know if anyone had any good experiences out there? I'm good for these first four weeks but the next ones I'll need help with. Thanks:goodvibes

Sounds like you need someone during the day. We are a homeschooling family and I have to say, many of my homeschooling friends have dd's who are in big demand for their flexible schedules and the ability to do some sitting during the day (plus, as a general rule, they tend to be very responsible sitters). Maybe you could contact a local homeschool group for some names or to put an email request out. Hope you heal quickly!

If there is a college near by call and see if any of the child development, nursing, or education students are avaliable.
Check with the Girl Scouts in your area, ask if any of the Senior or Ambassador scouts can babysit (high school age, all the girls in our daugther's troop are Red Cross certified).
hope you are feeling better, soon!

Do you belong to a church? the youth director or nursery director may know some college kids or even a lady or two who would like to pick up a little cash.

Start spreading the news that you are looking because word of mouth is usually how people find babysitters. (ask at work, neighbors, church)

It looks like you need a sitter/nanny, not a mother's helper. Contact your local red cross, or you can use an agency. You will have a tough time finding a teen or college student to care for your children during the day. Can you find a home daycare? If not, it's going to cost you about $10 - $15 an hour for someone to come to your home, even more with an agency.

Around here, there are lots of recent college grads who are unemployed/underemployed. I think starting to spread the word to everyone you know (via email works great so people can forward) is a great way to start.

I work at a church and I second calling yours if you have one or even any church if you don't.

The church office knows when people are out of work, and often people use that time as an opportunity to volunteer. That way the church office may know what people's work ethic is or how they are with kids, etc.

I concur on this one. A church/synagogue is a great resource for something like this.

That said, where in MI are you? I am a Pastor in MI and if we happen to be local, I may be able to help. If not, I have colleagues around the state who may be in your region.

Don't have an answer for you but wanted to let you know I feel your pain literally. Broke my lower leg/ankle two weeks ago ice skating having plate and screws put in Wednesday. I have a 13 month old, six and nine year old. Will have several weeks recovery and can't drive because it is my right leg. I be follwoing this thread for advice.

Mickeyfan--I live in Waterford, Michigan.

Grace---I broke my right leg also. I also have two other boys that are 4 and 9. There is a great forum board for those with broken legs called mybrokenleg.com
It really helps when you feel blue about the situation. Going from doing everything to basically nothing is hard, but not being able to take care of the baby and relying on others to do it is the hardest.:sad2:

Krischaser -

I am in Waterford as well!!! I am the Pastor of a church in Clarkston. If I can be of some help, either pm me or visit this site to call me or send me an e-mail.

Isn't Disboards an amazing place!

Dis'ers helping dis'ers....new friends and neighbors meeting for the first time. Just AWESOME! I'm truly amazed how God works miracles for those of us on Disboards.

Call your local Senior Citizens Center, thats where we have found our last 2 wonderful babysitters, 1st one babysat for our family for 6 years until her daughter had twins and she moved back east to help her out. 1st babysitter introduced us to the 2nd babysitter, both are wonderful grandmotherly types who love my children like they are their own.
