DH's first wife died a couple of hours ago. She was a *wonderful* person and we want to send something nice to her home for the other relatives to enjoy. DH wanted a gourmet gift basket and we looked at Harry & David but everything (even though some were costly) looked so unappealing and "blah" . Anyone ever order something REALLY nice along this line they could recommend. I'm hoping to order this afternoon. Any ideas will be soooo appreciated! :flower:

This is very generous and thoughtful of you. Maybe a nice plant would be nice. :confused3

Usually a local florist can make suggestions.
A nice gourmet/fruit basket sounds nice.

If you'll be going over to the house you could always bring something like a meat tray or something along those lines.

Whatever you choose I'm sure will be greatly appreciated.

Try 1-800-Flowers.com. They have a whole sympathy section with everything from flowers and plants to gift baskets.

I'm sorry for your loss.

If you do a search for Food Gift Baskets or Delivered Food Gift Baskets you will get some more ideas. I came up with a bunch of sites, too many to post.

I am sorry for your loss.

Have you checked with Feralpeg here on the boards. She does wonderful gift baskets - maybe she could recommend or come up with something for you.

Her website is http://www.peggyssweetsandmore.com/.

We used her for an anniversary basket & it turned out beautifully.

We got a wonderful food basket (from out of town friends) when my mother died, and I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciated it.

It was mostly snacks and "comfort" type foods, nothing fru-fru, which was exactly what we needed. I spent almost every waking moment, for about 2 weeks before my mom died, at my parents' house, and our cupboard here at home was pretty bare. My kids, especially my college-aged sons, just lit up when those goodies were delivered.

A friends father recently passed away, we sent a cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory.

I don't have any suggestions but I just wanted to say how nice it is to hear of a husband and his wife being so generous to his ex-wife and her family. You're doing a nice thing.

My dd's friend sent her one of the edible fruit arrangements and she said it was wonderful!! THat might be a nice way to go. Or something that people could just grab when they were hungry...cake, pies, love the cheesecake idea. I know that when my mom died, my father and stepmother showed up with a casserole, a whole baked ham and baked goods!!! Someone else brought lasagna and someone else a terrific tomato sauce with meatballs in a huge soup pot. That puppy lasted until after the funeral!!! I did really appreciate the food the most since I just wasn't in the mood to cook and feed the people staying with me.
And also...sympathies to your family. It is indeed nice to see ex'es getting along. Doesn't happen enough today.

I was recently looking for online food ordering to send a gift and came up on Cheryl & Co cookies. Very reasonably priced and VERY well received!

Thanks to the wonderful suggestions offered we've ordered a wonderful gift basket....has turkey, cheeses, cake, fruit and all sorts of other yummy stuff. Got the biggest we could find. :teeth:

Also wanted to say I especially appreciate the kind words regarding DH and my relationship to his ex-wife. Yes, she's been a wonderful friend to both of us through the years and hopefully she felt the same in regard to us. DH helped her through her illness (cancer) the past 2 years. He provided a way for her to have experimental treatment and pain medications that her insurance wouldn't cover. I'm very proud of my DH! :goodvibes

If you are going over, I found a fully cooked ham, sliced by the store, goes over very nicely. Some rolls. Everytime I've done this it is greatly appreciated.

ETA: Oh good! It looks as if you got a very thoughtful and useful basket.
