My ear is still blocked from my trip home from the world on Thursday 5/11. I was/still sick when flying and also it was a really bad flight. We were above the clouds the entire time until they said ok we are landing and then liek three mintues later we landed. So all that put together still has my ear blocked. Any suggestions? I am thinking about going to the doctors, but I dont go to the doctors unless im on my death bed or pregnant.

We use Ear Candles about twice a year. Maybe that would help? We get them at the local health food store, they are only $1 or $2 each. You need to be careful but they have been wonderful for DD! http://www.dakara.com/earintro.html I dont mean to be gross but the first time I cut the "candle" open after using it I was amazed at the gunk that came out of her ears. We use a tin pie plate and always at an angle so there is no wax drip!!!!

You might try taking a decongestant and some Robitussin to thin out any mucous that is compounding the situation.

Try using ear cups. Get a couple of small styrofoam coffee cups, stuff the bottoms of the cups with some paper towels, and then pour in a SMALL amount of boiling water to wet the paper towels. Tilt the cups sideways to make sure none of the hot water will drip, then place the cups tightly over your ears. The steam from the hot water will help to equalize the pressure behind your eardrum. Don't hold the cups on too long; you don't want steam burns.

This happened to me a couple months ago when I was sick. I called my doctor and they said to take some Sudafed. I did, and within a day or two it cleared up. I'd try that, and if it doesn't work then I'd go see the doctor.

We always use Similasan. It is a natural eardrop, but I use it if my ears get blocked or if my kids complain of earpain, and it always clears things up pretty quickly. DS used to always get ear infections, but if I catch it early with these drops, he doesn't need to take the antibiotic.

If you start feeling dizzy or feel like the floor/room suddenly tips sideways, get to a doctor. I have a hard time with ear congestion in general, and on the flight back from our WDW trip in 2002, water from swimming was forced deep into my ears, resulting in labyrinthitis. I couldn't drive, could barely stand, and lost days of work until the medication took effect. It was also quite unpleasant trying to function with recurring short-term feelings of drunkenness for weeks afterward.

Try a homemade solution of equal parts white vinegar and rubbing alcohol. Put 2-3 drops in your ear twice a day and hold head to the side for about 30 seconds then tilt it over onto a towel to drain. Sometimes you may feel a little dizzy right after, especially if the solution is cold. I usually use a medicine dispencer cup and hold it in my hand for a few minutes to warm it a bit. I get congested in my ears a lot from allergies and I have found this works for me. I also take Mucinex tablets twice a day. Good Luck!
