We're looking to book a 5 for 3 vacation the end of September. We've never stayed at either hotel before, but are able to now. We're tryiing to decide which hotel to stay at. We live in No. CA and have been to DL MANY MANY times. Two daughters, age 12 and 14. One big issue is that my husband is 6'8", and 14 y/o daughter is 6'1", so the bed size is important. DH and I strongly prefer a king bed, as even a queen is tight for two of us. So, I'm looking for differences of bed type, hotel 'coolness' factor, swimming pool theming, etc. Can anyone give their thoughts/advise? Thanks!! :thumbsup2

since you have been there many times you must pass the Grand californian all the time, that place is awesome, but I did not think the rooms were all that, just the building its self. but I would never pay that price to stay there, if anything I would pay that price to stay off location at a really luxurious hotel. The disneyland , to me has older furniture, and looks dirty ( I have stayed there and did not think it was worth the money ) I found it to be sub par. After all these years of going, I would rather spend my money on nice hotels out side the park.

For me, just knowing that i'm staying on Disney property, keeps me happy the whole time, and same goes with the party i'm going with...

The Disney hotel's just have a different type of "magic" that goes with staying on property, but to obtain that "magic" you gonna have to shell out a WHOLE LOT of money!:lmao:

As far as bed sizes go, I'm not sure if you can get two king size beds in one room at either hotel???

It would cost more, but you could get two adjoining rooms, one with a king sized bed, and the other with two queens for your daughters?

I read on allears.net that the rooms at the DLH are a little bit bigger square footage wise, but it's not as close to the parks as the GCH...the GCH is a prime location!

I love both hotels. I've stayed in DLH many, many, many times and have never had a dirty or shabby room. Yes, it is an older hotel and there are sometimes quirks (as with the plumbing), but there is so much charm! The CMs have always been very good to us there. You just can't beat the grounds and the onsite activities of DLH or GCH.

For the age of your girls, I think the GCH would be the preferred hotel. However, I would also suggest that you look into a king suite at DLH in the Dreams tower. The rooms are huge and you'd get the big bed you want. You can also get a prime view of DTD with a great location for accessing the monorail, DTD, RFC, and the coffee shop/bookstore. It may or may not be a longer walk to DL, depending on where your room is in GCH--some of the rooms there are quite a distance from the lobby and though the hotel itself is close, some of the rooms are not!!

GCH would give you a better location for CA and the central part of DTD. It would appeal more to teenagers, I think. If at all possible, you might consider concierge--their lounge is amazing and the girls would LOVE it. There is food and drink available all day long, as well as a computer station and other entertainments. My girls are only 6 and 8 but they loved being able to run to the lounge and hang out a bit. However, the cost is high for that privilege! I think it's $150/day on top of the room cost.

If you decide on GCH, consider asking for a daybed room, as they are larger. I think they only come with 2 queens, though. I don't think there is such a thing as a room with a king and a queen or 2 kings.

BTW, handicap-accessible rooms are larger and/or have more room for maneuvering. I don't know if you can request one of those. Also, there are only a limited number of king rooms and those are generally saved for handicapped due to the maneuverability issue. The king suite would be an exception, I think.
