Need help designing a new toy hauler

After agonizing over which camper would be best to haul toys I'm opting to buy something I can take from the ground up. The thing that got me into camping was riding 4 wheelers and wanting something to stay in for a weekend when we were in the forest or other riding areas. I ended up buying a new Tailgator that hauled 3 four wheelers inside and one in the bed.

The camper I have now only hauls a golf cart or 1 four wheeler so it's not an option to use that. I will be keeping my 5th wheel for non toy related camping at the fort and other places. Before I go on I'll post some pics. The trailer comes in red to match my truck.

About the only option I'll get from the factory is a/c. It's easier to let them install it plus they will finish the ceiling with a nice vinyl liner so that just leaves the walls for me.

I thought about a bathroom but it's too much trouble. The places we go to have facilities and I don't want to get 10 grand in this thing. I'm thinking a nice counter to take up the V in front. Probably a fridge in the center and microwave built in. I'm selling the pop up so this will be a replacement for it as well. It's not renting a whole lot anyway. I'm pretty sure I could get away with having it in a partial site as well. I've seen people use enclosed trailers in the partials so doubt anyone would say anything.

It will hold at least 2 four wheelers on the deck plus I have my bed open for one. I'm even thinking if I want to take a jet ski to the Keys I could make the beams on the deck and back it in the water before setting up. Most of the campsites in the keys have a place to dock your vessel.

My biggest dilemna is bedding. Do I make 4 bunks? Singles, doubles or both. I've even seen this model with the hybrid bunks on the sides but they're around $900 with the canvas and metal door. I thought about deleting the back door so the beds don't block it.

Not really sure what to do. Hope some folks can help with the design.

Could you do two full size bunks in back...and make one that swings up when not in use? Kitchen in front like you said, and a small sofa that you could pull tv trays up to for eating when it rains. Opposite that a cupboard unit/closet for storage.

Not sure if that all fits...what are the dimensions? Just trying to think of the things that would be useful in a unit. Place to sleep...place to store and prepare food...place to store clothes and supplies. That's about it.

Sounds like a fun project. Maybe draw it out on graph paper.

My 5th wheel has a bouble bed on bottom and a single on top. I'm thinking about either 4 single beds (2 on each wall) or maybe a double on one side and 2 singles on other. The enclosed is 8'x10'. I'm thinking maybe 2 doubles on bottom as well. I think I could leave the back door in the mix for escape if needed. Going to measure my bottom bunk to see what I have to play with. I need space in the middle of course to get in the beds. Hoping to make all beds flip down.

DH and 3DS's went on "man" quad trip hauling a 4 place enclosed trailer, they were to sleep in the trailer mind you....they didn't have a/c of course but DH said he wish he had "windows" with screens for a nice cross ventilation (DH is HVACR man)....the gas doors were windows but the black flies were biting hence the need for screens....
we put in the trailer to make it work for a week in the wilderness was a bench with storage, they slept on AM's with sleeping bags and put hooks to hang stuff on....good luck, can't wait to see pics on how it turns out

Well....THIS girl is not staying out of it. All projects require a woman's touch!!

Donnie - I like the idea of making the front "V" area your kitchen. The "V" will allow you to maximize storage space by custom building cabinets to fit. All you'll need is a small fridge, microwave, and maybe a 2 burner stove (either hot plate or propane). You could also mount a flat screen TV in that area. (Don't forget the DVD player).

For safety's sake, don't block or remove side the door. Use that for your main entry door & block the door at the rear so you maximize you usable wall space. I can't judge the interior's size from the pic's, but at most, won't you need to sleep 4 people? I'd recommend a set of bunks on the rear (opposite end of "V") wall - which you could mount a curtain to pull across for privacy, and some sort of fold out double bed on the wall across from the side door. That will leave the wall the side door is on available to build in some drawers or other storage units for clothes and other gear.

If you feel the need to have a window, put one in the side door and figure out how to mount a screen to that door so you can open it up without getting eaten alive by bugs. Put a fantastic fan in the ceiling to help draw air thru when the door is opened.

Ok I know this sounds crazy but if done right it could be cool.( I warn you now it may not be practical) So here we go in the new toy hauler only install a full bathroom, kitchen, a couch to watch tv on (here is where it will get interesting)
and a staircase (now for the crazy part) now mount your pop up camper on the roof of the new trailer. You now have a 2 story toyhauler wit a upstairs bedroom and a down stairs living room. Now when you make a ton of money off this remember who gets a cut. Me
