Dear all,

We are a family of five with kids ages 7,5 and 3.. We will be checking into Disney for a week of Disney fun and im considering Universal studios after that. Hubby doesnt think its worth it as the kids are quite young and most rides might not be suitable for them and im also pregnant!

But the thing is my youngest son LOVES Barney and i know there are shows there.. So i looked up vacation packages staying on site and its costing about $750 for a one night stay but will allow us to get in the parks for two days and use the express passes..

So what do you think? Cant wait to hear from you ..

Thanks

Hi there!!

To be honest, I don't think Barney is an prominent as it used to be at Universal. There used to be an indoor Barney play area, but I don't know if it's there anymore.

However, there are plenty of other things there which I'm sure your children will enjoy! Even if the youngest can't get on lots of rides, there's lots of good play areas, water play parks, and places like the Jurassic Park area.

Hope this helps and if you have any other questions just shoot! :)

Honestly ( and I am a huge fan of Universal), I wouldn't..They may or may not meet the height requirements for alot, and even if they do alot of the stuff MIGHT scare them, and as a pregnant woman, the rides are not as "pregnancy" friendly as Disney. So you won't be able to do alot with them .I honestly would wait..If you are set on going , I would go to the Unviersal site, look up the height requirements , pregnancy warnings and ride descriptions and then look at some youtube videos to see what may or may not work for your family. We brought our DD for the first time at age 8, because we wanted to go ( Dh and I ), and though she met alot of the requirements, alot scared her.So we had to do alot of childswaps( the process is different at Universal than at disney). To answer the question, There is a Barney show and the characters .

That's a tough one.

Over at Islands of Adventure there is a great Dr. Seuss Themed area for kids as well as Marvel Super-heros. The comic section is really cute for photos as well. I think the Discovery area of Jurassic Park is very kid friendly as well. The Harry Potter area is wonderful but the rides are not really for kids. The castle tour is actually pretty cool!

Over at the Studios there is ET, Shrek and a cute Animal actors show as well as Barney.

Is it worth it? That I am not too sure of.

Putting myself in your shoes: If I had three kids aged 3, 5, and 7, I wouldn't take them to Universal. There are a few child friendly areas (pretty much one "area" at each park) - Woody Woodpecker zone at Universal and Seuess Landing at IOA. Universal has the Barney stage show, Animal Actors show that they might like, a little children's roller coaster, ET, and some play areas. Outside of that, there aren't many family attractions that 3-5 year olds can ride. I think you'd probably get 3-4 hours out of it, at best.

After that... Boy... I don't think you'd get much out of either park. I don't even see a 7 year old getting a whole lot out of the experience, because the "big" attractions are likely still a bit too much.

I don't know if money is a factor for you, but from a purely personal standpoint, I can't possibly see how you're going to get $750 worth of entertainment out of one+ days there. I'd take the $750 and use it on an extra couple nights at Disney, and re-visit the things we enjoyed the most.

But that's just me and my hypothetical children and my thin wallet.
