Trying to pick somewhere for dinner on the night we arrive. It will by myself, DH & DS (3). We won't be going to a park on this day, so it needs to be either in Downtown Disney or in a resort. My DH is a picky eater, so it can't be anything too "exotic"...he's a steak & potatoes & not much else kind of guy. Feel like every place I look at has such negative reviews. Coming here to the boards to see what y'all recommend.........

we always eat at down town disney the first night at disney. We are pretty meat and potato, but we ate at wolfgang puck Express and was suprised at the variety and it was really good. We used our counter service on meal plan. Also what resort are you staying at?

That's good to know about the Wolfgang Puck Express! I was also looking at Boatwrights. We are staying at the CBR.

In regards to T-Rex: I am leery. I read somewhere that it's owned by the same company as Rainforest Cafe & my DH & I hate that place. We find the food to be ok but way overpriced (not just in Disney, all of their locations). Have you eaten at both and if so, is T-Rex better? That was my 1st choice....

I do not like the food at rainforest.. We ate at T-Rex last year and we really enjoyed our meals. DS (4 at the time) loved it there! The theme of the restaurant was worth it for me hands down! It is pretty loud, so that could be an issue for a 3 year old if they are not used to commotion. I do have to say that we are not real "picky" eaters, but DH is a meat and potatoes kind of guy. I just asked him if he would recommend and he said yes.
Best of luck choosing. I am sure wherever you go with be great!

I'm so glad to hear that about T-Rex. That was my original choice because DS loves dinosaurs. He constantly walks around the house saying, "I'm a T-Rex, I stomp around!" Think I'm going to have definitely give it a good reconsideration.

I'd say Captain's Grill at YC and Turf Club at SSR are the most "classic American food" restaurants. And SSR is pretty convenient to DTD if you want to eat, then wander the shops for a bit.

When we go to WDW, we usually spend our first day eating at DTD or Resort or the Boardwalk...My DH is a "meat and potatoes" guy and the rest of us like variety so here are a few suggestions:

Boma...Meat and potatoes but lots of "different" foods also.
Big River Grill on the Boardwalk...Lots of meat and potatoes...
Maya Grill...a couple of simple meat and potato dishes.
Grand Floridian Cafe...good simple meat and potato plus a couple for those who don't want the meat.
Whispering Canyon Cafe...has simple meat and potato dishes and fun for the family...
If you don't mind paying a little more, Yachtsman Steakhouse is great!
DTD: How about House of Blues? They will have burgers and fries and steaks and potatoes other good meals for those not wanting the meat and potaotes, like nice salads and chicken dishes etc.

Recommend DTD..

Here are our favs there:

1. Earl of Sandwich
2. WolfGang Puck Express

Good luck!

I agree with Coach on his choices at DTD. I LOVE the sandwiches at Earl of Sandwich and I really love Wolfgangs.

Wolfgangs offers an interesting assortment of food. Youc an get pastas, fishes, chicken and meat but they also have a sushi bar which for me is a big PLUS!!

Any Disney buffet would be good as well. My two favorites are Cape May at the Beach Club, O'Hana's at Polynesian (kids have fun there) and Boma's at AKL. All support a meat and potatoe kinda person but they also have a GREAT variety of food.

Cape May has added king crab legs to their buffet which for me is a MAJOR plus!!

have fun and explore all that Disney has to offer...

Planet Hollywood at DTD has pretty basic fare, burgers, fries, chicken fingers, etc. We had a really good burger there. The menu is similar to any TGI Fridays, Applebees, etc.

Good luck.:thumbsup2
