Need help deciding on when to buy in

DH & I know we want to become DVC members. This is the situation:
We wanted to wait til 2009 to buy in b/c that's when DH makes partner & we'll have more $. Plus, we just got back from WDW & plan on going back Nov '09 or Feb '10. With that in mind, I would like to have AKV Kidani as my home resort w/a Sept or Oct UY. We usually travel Nov-May. Aug UY might not be bad either. However, DH would like to have KTV as our home resort when (if) it becomes available. He just wants to wait til that opens up.
Okay, so I need a DIS DVC expert to spell this out for me. When would we want to buy in based on this info??? How much is already sold of AKV Kidani?
IF KTV is a DVC & opens up, would we have any chance as non DVC members buying in w/that as our home resort?

We bought into DVC at the BWV in Oct 05 and booked our 1st trip for Feb 06 however, there wasn't too much availability to stay at our Home Resort. It was touch and go and we didn't get to spend 4 nights at the BW as planned but they had a room at the BCV so we spent the 4th night there and 3 nights at the BWV.

So even though waiting is a good idea, you may what to buy at least 7 months before your next trip so you can book the room you want. At the 7 month window all other DVC members who don't own at the AKV will get to book there.

Its also a good idea to pay as much as you can without financing it. (They have all kinds of deals throught the year-- whether its double points, $10 off etc-so you may want to be on the look out for a good deal) However, the point cost does increase from time to time so you should keep that in mind too.

It doesn't really matter whether you actually own a unit in Jambo or Kidani as AKV will be your home resort and when you actually book your room you can request where you'd like to stay and what type of room at the time of booking. Since they only have Jambo open at this time I don't know how that will work in the future.

IF the KTV are to be DVC, I'm sure the sales will be strong but there will be plenty of availability to non-DVC members. Alot of members don't really care for the KTV-- so I doubt they will sell out really fast (at least I hope not and if they do there will always be resales as situations change all the time. Just look at all the SSR resalesl)

We were glad we waited because we got to buy BW points instead of SSR points -- Disney has ROFR so they get to buy back points from owners who want to sell if they wish and then resell them. We picked up all our points through Disney that way.

You will know when the time is right to purchase and you may change your mind a few times about where you want to buy. But that's what add on are for!!
