Hi Gang

I need your help with the Poly. We are starting to plan a trip to WDW for the summer of 2008. We'll have 5 free nights at the Swan/Dolphin from our SPG points. So... we're thinking of adding on a few nights at the Beach Club given the Epcot area.

Of course last night DW and I were looking online at the DISBoards, Allearsnet, etc, etc.. and my DW wondered about the Poly. Our DS will be 8 and our DD will be 4 so we'll be spending most of our time at the MK. With the Poly we'd be right on the monorail too.

However here are my concerns. The Poly is expensive. I'd be comfortable with paying $200-250 a night for a resort but I question the value when it's over that. Also my impression (whether right or wrong) is that the Poly would be really dated in look and feel since it is so old.

My DW thinks that the Poly would be perfect for us. I'm getting to that way of thinking. I also think it would be really cool to stay at one of Walt's original resorts. Can you offer your advice, stories, impressions, common sense to help me think that the Poly would be awesome after 5 nights at the Dolphin for our trip?

Thanks
Andy

The Poly remodeled all of their rooms just last year, as well as most of the public areas. It doesn't look outdated at all. It is very convenient to the MK, and since you can either walk or take a monorail to the TTC for connecting to Epcot, it's also very convenient for that park as well.

It would be a little early to anticipate whether any discounts would be offered. For the past couple of years, Poly hasn't been included in the summer discount codes. If you are a AAA member, you may be able to get a AAA discount when those rates are announced. Typically that happens sometime in August for the following year. The great thing about AAA discounts is they open up the whole year at one time, so you aren't waiting around hoping something will come up. The bad thing is you need to be ready to book as soon as the rates come out, so you don't lose out if you're going during a popular time.

The Beach Club will cost as much, or even more, than Poly, so if Poly is where you want to stay, go for it!

We love the Poly. It is one of the better themed resorts. It is also the number one resort for repeat guests. The rooms are spacious. The grounds are beautiful. Easy access to the monorail is a huge bonus. My daughter loves the pool slide and the adjacent beach.

There is a really good poly website ***********
I tried to paste the url but this site must not allow that.

Count me as a vote FOR the Poly.

We are staying at the Poly for the first time in October so I can't really help you, but if you google tikiman and polynesian, you will get the website f7prez is talking about. It is very detailed!

This is what the room looks like:

The beach is GREAT for the kids to play on, the views are beautiful! The monorail and boat to magic kingdom are AWESOME! The poly is a great resort!

I love the Poly!!! I think it would be perfect for you after the Swan/Dolphin...Yeah, BC would be cool too, but Poly is in a different area and you are on the Monorail. All of the rooms are renovated, so everything is new! If price is the issue, we have found that pricing between Poly and BC is really close...with the monorail, we feel like the Poly is a better deal. We chose WL for this trip b/c we got a great AAA deal, but if $$$ was no option, I'd choose the Poly every time!:thumbsup2

I just stayed at the Poly for the first time two weeks ago. I usually stay at BC or WL. I really loved the Poly! The rooms were great, transportation to MK is excellent as is dinning options. Pool was crowded, but alot of fun for the kids. DD7 loved the slide and your little one will like the zero entry area. My husband and DD also sent some time at the arcade.

The rooms were nice and big and very clean! As someone stated before, BC can be more $$ than Poly.

I think you should go for the Polynesian. It is a very good resort, and for the money you pay per night, there are many more amenities than the Wilderness Lodge or another deluxe resort. :)

We love the Poly. After staying there last year, my kids and DH refuse (absolute refuse) to consider another resort...

The pool is great. The theming is so much silly fun (DH and I were talking about it just this evening before dinner). The Monorail can't be beat. The rooms are very large and recently renovated and beautifully so. The grounds are very nice. The dining options are excellent both at the resort itself and via the Monorail. Transportation is good because of the Monorail and your ability to walk to the TTC and catch the direct Epcot line too. There are just so many good things about the Poly that we can't imagine another place for us. If you have young kids who love MK, you'll love it there.

Awesome advice so far gang!!

I just wanted to bump this to get more great opinions.

I'll chime in that our stay at the Poly the 2nd week of June was excellent. The monorail service is fast and dependable. The staff at the Poly are attentive and friendly, and the resort grounds are lovely - especially at night. Your convenient to the MK and Epcot, and of course there is Ohana's for dinner:banana:
