Dh & I are going to Orlando in January before our cruise for a few days. DH would like to go to Disney. I'm fine with it, although it wouldn't be my first choice.

We are driving and will be there mid January. I'd like to find a decent hotel, $150 or less a night that includes free parking & free internet as I need to stay connected for work.

Any recommendations? I have a friend of a friend telling me I want to avoid the Kissisimee area and stay in the Lake Buena Vista area. I'd prefer to stay off of Disney simply cause I'd like to avoid as many kids as possible.

I can tolerate the kids during the day for my DH, but at night I'd like to be able to rest and not have to listen to them screaming and yelling.

Tripadvisor is where I normally find all my recommendations, but it really is just overwhelming at this point. Help!

Over in Port Canaveral, try Country Inn and Suites:
Free parking during your stay and cruise
Free breakfast
Free transport to and from the port
They have Internet, do not know if it costs or not

I actually have a hotel for the night before the cruise in Port Canaveral. I'm just looking for something near Disney for the three nights before that.

In January you won't have to deal with Kids at your hotel the same way you would during the summer or typical school breaks. Beyond that, anything in the tourist district is usually going to have a ton of kids running around. They don't keep all the families/kids exclusively at the On-site Disney Hotels.

For the price range you are looking at, you should be able to find a lot of good places. It might be worth asking over in the Orlando Areas Hotels/Attractions forum since you'll run into more people who will have specific experience or recommendations for your offsite needs.

Also, are you looking for something more "resort-like"? Something with free transportation to the Disney parks? a simple cheap hotel room?

You can find stuff ranging from timeshare resorts (2bdrms at Wyndham Bonnet Creek for instance are often reported at being found under $100/night and includes free interest), To the Waldorf, To places like Marriots, Hampton Inns, Days Inn, etc.... all the way down to an econo lodge or other barebones type of room.

There is a Country Inn and suites about two miles from DTD with free parking, internet and free breakfast. do a search for Lake Buena Vista location

Try the dolphin or swan. They run discounts from time to time. Great resort. Parking isn't free though you do get to take advantage of disney transportation.

also the caribe royale or buena vista suites. I second checking the mousesavers dot com website

I live about a half block from Seaworld. Across the street from me is a Renaissance Resort and a Hilton Garden Inn. I am less than 10 minutes from DTD, US/IOA and about a minute to Seaworld. Its an ideal location to be in when in Central Florida and wanting to see the parks. Personally though I would use the Nurse Discount at the Swan and stay closer on site. Just has a better feel for me. As far as the whole kid thing. . .this is a resort area and kids will be there regardless. Make the trip as adult as you like, though, go to Rose & Crown pub in Epcot and have adult beverages. Walk through World Showcase and experience the countries. Stop in at Tune Inn Lounge for a drink and a meal at the bar. Bartenders are friendly and the meal is comfort food. Head to the Boardwalk, stopping in at Big River Grill for a great burger and good beer. Basically, the kids are around but not in your face at these venues. Enjoy and have fun.
