Need Help! Changing Names For Cruise Booked On Points??

I have a few questions that I haven't been able to find an answer to and hoping someone has experience in this area.

My boss and I are both DVC members. Unfortunately he and his family will not be able to go on a cruise that he booked on points for 6/15/12. MS has advised him that he will lose his points altogether but could simply transfer the reservation to another person's name(s). He offered to transfer the cruise to me and do the name change(s). I'm aware that the $95 booking fee will be charged. Someone here on the DIS mentioned that this cannot be done, one of the names on the original reservation has to remain. Is this so? What would happen if he left one the names and that person didn't show on the day of the cruise?

It is also my understanding that you cannot change names (possibly only the lead person but not sure of that) on DVC cruise reservations.

However, if Member Services told him he could do that, I would look into it further - they are not always right, but they could be.
 
It's possible to change names because changes to a Disney Collection Reservation are considered a cancellation and rebook.
 
No, you cannot change all the names on a reservation. This is DCL's policy and DVC cannot make that determination. The information you received was not correct. You might want to call and ask to speak with a supervisor.

I have not had issues in the past changing the names on a DCL reservation booked on points. (subject to the $95 change fee, of course.)
 
Just following up in case anyone else encounters the same situation. My boss had to to a complete cancel and rebook but the reservation is under my name.:)

Cancel & Rebook are how all changes to Disney Collection Reservations are handled.

Interesting this could be done less than a month out! Were there any penalties incurred, was the $95 fee charged once or twice for the two transactions?

I believe there were penalties but I'm not sure. They did charge the $95 change fee again because he had to rebook.
