Is that what they are called up there?

DS#2 has to wear a costume to represent another country for his school play. We just made an Indian costume for ds#1 for Thanksgiving.

I was thinking I could just put a Canadian flag on it and we could say he was representing the Indians of Canada???

Is that appropriate? Anyone know?

I love these teachers who give you only short notice of costumes needed. I just got back from Epcot! If I'd known before my trip, I could have gotten him lots of costumes of different countries.

You have to put him in a Plaid Shirt, Work Pants, and a pair of Work Boots. Then he is to sing.......

"I'm a Lumberjack and that's OK!"

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Now, to be serious.

To best represent Canada would be to wear a Parka, Snow Boots and carry a Stuffed Polar Bear.

No I definitely don't think putting a Canadian flag on a costume and calling someone a Canadian Indian would be appropriate any more than putting an American Flag on a costume and calling that an American Indian would be appreciated.

I see that you are from Ohio, have you ever heard of the great Chief Tecumseh of the Shawnee tribe. He was born near Springfield Ohio and he died right here near the town that I live in.

Every fall we have what we call "The Faire at the Forks", during which they recreate the battles between the Indians, the British and the Americans. It was during one of these battles that Chief Tecumseh died.

Other Canadian Indian tribes include .....the Chippewa, the Ojibwa, the Potawatomi and the Inuit or Eskimos.

Just go to a search engine and type in Chief Tecumseh or another one might be Walpole Island, which is an Indian Reserve near to us. You will find lots of info there.

Good luck, I hope this helps you some with your project. :D

The common term for aboriginals in Canada is First Nations.

Sticking a Canadian Flag on a costume would be highly imappropriate IMHO.

A lumberjack...that is a good idea.

Thanks for the link faithinkarma. I'll check it out. I think I can adapt our "indian vest" to an Aboriginal Canadian.

Thanks to my Canadian friends for all their help.

Lucky you, my husband is a Canadian Indian and they have been using Aboriginal lately but First Nation is also acceptable.

Of course, that does not include Inuit or Metis communities.

I think that your best bet might be to represent something that definitely says Canada. You could do a Mountie pretty easily and I think that would really represent Canada. Here is the only good full body picture of an RCMP officer I could find...

Granted, it is an action figure but you get the idea. You could do a red coat with a belt around it, black pants, boots, and a hat (you could even use a cowboy hat if you had to). Just an idea. :)
