Hello all,

We are planning a trip to Hershey Park in August and having a hard time figuring out where to stay. The Hershey Hotel and Lodge are way overpriced; I am sorry but paying more than POFQ for a Hershey hotel is beyond our logic.

Anyone have any advice for a cheap hotel close to the park?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Copy and paste this link to a prior DIs thread...(looks like it is working as a link so just click on it)

you can also use the search function and put in Hersey Hotel to find other past threads...

I have only stayed at the Hershey Lodge once (for a hockey tournament) and I would highly recommend it especially during the holidays....beautiful decorations and the fireplace in the lobby surrounded by leather couches...
they also have free mini golf and lots of resort activities for kids...scavenger hunt etc....but we got a group discount... :goodvibes

The Hershey Hotel & Lodge are rediculously overpriced....believe me, I stayed in the Lodge a few years ago.

We went to HersheyPark last month and stayed at the Wyndham Harrisburg-Hershey on Lindale Road. It was WONDERFUL and reasonably priced (I got a AAA discount). They have an awesome pool that begins inside the hotel and actually goes underneath a wall to the outside. Very cool.

We were with my niece, so we requested a fridge, and they brought it to our room within minutes....completely free of charge.

It's probably about a 10 minute drive directly to HersheyPark from this hotel.

It was clean and the staff was incredibly helpful...almost Disney-esque. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. I can't really say it's "cheap", though, but you might want to take a look:

We have stayed at the Best Western in Harrisburg. I believe it is exit 72. There is a Country Oven restaurant there and you get a breakfast voucher with your stay. The pool is a good size too.

We've stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites on Chocolate Ave twice and it was great. Clean rooms, friendly staff and a free breakfast buffet in the morning. It's around the corner from the themepark and right down the street from the actual Chocolate factory with a sit down restaurant next door.

Harrisburg is a hop skip and a jump from Hershey, find a hotel there for half the cost. I will be going sometime, just not sure when. :teeth:

Have fun when you go and if you are a Coaster fan, ride the Storm Runner!

POFQ does not bring milk & cookies to your room w/ turndown service. It also isn't a "historic hotel" They are totally different creatures. If you have a passion for historic hotels, beautiful gardens & one of the most amazing spas - REALLY AMAZING spa :cloud9: Then you should consider paying the price for the Hotel Hershey. The circular dining room is world class :)

I have to agree, POFQ can't hold a candle to Hotel Hershey. It truly is a first class hotel. It has a beautiful and rather large indoor pool, as well as an outdoor, the grounds are gorgeous, the rooms are a good size with very nice amenities.
In case you couldn't tell this is my favorite hotel, and I may be shot, but it's better than any Disney hotel (and yes I have stayed deluxe at Disney)

Guess I should have reworded a bit better...

IMHO, I refuse to pay more than POFQ for a hotel at another theme park that is nowhere near the quality as WDW.

I have a season pass to Hershey Park. We love going there. :cool1: That being said I don't think in any way it can even be considered in the same league w/ Disney. I wouldn't think of Hershey Park as being a "destination". The Hotel Hershey is more of a destination then the park is. Hershey Park is just a small part of an area that is fun to visit. I hope you take time to enjoy the Dutch Country, the Hershey gardens & by all means you have to check out the spa   Don't forget to check out the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg if you have an interest Civil War history. Central PA is a great area for people on the East coast to visit - unfortunately every vacation can't be a trip to Disney :guilty: .

Hershey Park does have some world class coasters and it has a great variety of rides for everybody in the family - personally, I'd be dissapointed if I focused an entire vacation on just the park.

I hope you enjoy your trip to Central PA. I wish I had more lodging suggestions, living there we don't have to stay in the hotels :)

My relatives love to come up and bring the kids to Hershey. I remember a Best Western about ten min away. Try their site! It really is a fun park! :cool1:

There is a SpringHill Suites by Marriott right near the park. Also a little family owned place called the White Rose Motel.

Depending on how far you want to travel, you're only about 25 miles from the Lancaster area. We just got back from a weekend in Lancaster and Hershey. We stayed at the Fairfield Inn on Granite Run Drive in Lancaster. It was exactly 25 miles to Hershey from there.

We like to stay at the Hampton Inn in Grantville. It is on Route 81 and only 7 miles from Hershey Park. I just checked and the rate for a weekend in August is $139.00 a night.

The Hampton Inn in the town of Hershey (1 mile from Hershey Park) is asking $229 for the same dates.

The nice thing about Hampton Inns is that they offer free breakfast. There is usually a nice variety of food to choose from.

Have a great time, we were there last weekend and had a ball!!!
