Ok I have 8 months to make this work. I need 3000 just for the room and package. Now gas and anything else is on top of that. I am thinking we will need at least 4000. Any ideas as to how I can finance this? I want it to be a surprise for DH.

If you're going to finance this, how are you going to pay it off? I don't finance my trips (there are 6 of us). I use a Holiday Club (i.e. Christmas Club) through my bank to save in advance. It's a relatively painless way to save a decent amount for our trips and not feel like I have to watch every penny while we're down there. I also put $$ away I've earned through yard sales in an envelope in our Disney folder. DH also saves all his change and we cash that in right before leaving for pocket $$.

I'm not about to tell you how to finance your money, but there are ways to save money through the year.

Best of luck.

Work out how many weeks there are till everything has to be paid. Decide how much you need and divide by the number of weeks.
That is how much you will need to save per week.

You might try posting on the Budget Board, but right now, it sounds like you need to save $500 per month. That's a lot of money to put away without telling your DH.

Also, if you post the details of your trip, you may get a bit of advice on ways to bring down the cost. I'm able to stay on-site at a Moderate for 1 week for less than $3500, including room, food, airfare, souvenirs, etc.

Here's the details: We will be staying at the Pops Century hotel. We are getting the preimum package. For 7 days: I was quoted 3018.62 from disney and 3009.16 from AAA. Gas prices (up here at least) are 2.50 a gallon. I'm from Grand Rapids, MI and we driving down. It's about 200 bucks round trip for gas. We obviously wont need food though while we are Disney because of the package we are getting. We won't need gas either because we can use Disney transportation. So far I'm up to 3218.62 for the trip and gas. Add 50 for food there and back we are up to 3268.62. I guess I will only need 3500. LOL. When I said finance I didn't mean borrow the money. I don't even want to go there because it will take forever to pay off. I don't think I have enough stuff to sell on ebay or garage sale either. This could get interesting lol.

How many people will you have going? I may be wrong, but I think that sounds high, especially if you are staying at Pop for 7 nights. But then again when I priced a trip for 8 nights at Pop, it was taking the free dining plan into consideration. If you are paying for the dining plan, that will add more to your total. When will you be going?

Are you looking for ways to make your trip cheaper, or just ways to save $3500?

We are going March 11-18. Would it be better to add another day on? There is only 2 of us going as well. This is our 2nd honeymoon since we didn't really get one the first time around. We will also be celebrating our 5 year anniversary. I am still waiting to see what the price is to the vow renewal route. Trying to get my bases covered. LOL.

If you are really looking to finance, you could open up a Disney Visa. Right now you can finance for 12 months 0%, and future trips 6 months 0%. :wave2:

For years we've had a trip account, where a certain amount is automatically deposited from one of our checks (dh's since I've been a sahm). We never see the money, so we never miss it. Then when we've got enough in there, we plan a trip.

To get $4000 in 8 months, you'd need to put $500 a month (or $250 per bi-weekly check) in your account.

Another thing we've done for the last few years is increase our tax contributions by lowering how many dependents we claim. I know that a financial advisor would say this is a bad use of money, but that lump sum of $4000 to $5000 every April has paid for quite a few vacations for us!
