Need help.. 1st time Changing Booking at 7 mo...

We currently have studios book at AKL.
We are hoping for boardwalk when our 7 mo opens..

Do I have a cancel my AKL booking before I can book the boardwalk ?
Or is there a way when booking the boardwalk, they will let me use those points from the AKL booking and cancel our AKL booking?
We do not have enough points to hold both bookings

If you want to use points from the AKL reservation, you would have to cancel it first. Online that would mean cancelling the reservation and then attempting to make a new one. During that time in between cancelling and locking in the new reservation, the new reservaiton you thought was open could be filled by another and you could be blocked out of your prior reservation. If you instead call to make the change, MS has a little better ability to make the change without losing the new booking in between cancellation and booking..

How much of a risk there is to losing both reservations depends on what you are looking to change to and when. If, for example, you are hoping to change to BWV pool/garden view during any time between mid-Jan and last week of Sep, then the probability is about certain that you will be able to make that change since BWV pool/garden view is always open during that time even a little past the seven month window. On the other end of the extreme, if in fact what you want to do is switch from AKL to BWV for the first week of Dec, DVC's highest demand week of the year, and you actually see an opening at the time for BWV, then there will be a significant risk that the BWV reservation will disappear betwen the time you cancel AKV and try to reserve BWV and probably a greater than 50% chance that the AKV reservation will also be gone if you try to go back to it.

Does it faster if I use an iPad to cancel, than use the computer to book?

Example. Having the computer loaded and ready to book... Than hit cancel on the iPad. And hit book on the computer?

Start booking the new reservation on your computer. Get to the point where it says the reservation is held for 20 minutes. There will be an option to borrow points on this screen. Now, on the ipad, cancel the current reservation. DON'T DO ANYTHING ELSE. Don't search for availability or anything else on the ipad, just cancel the reservation. Go back to the computer and select the "Borrow points" option. Then click cancel. Your point totals will refresh without losing the "hold" on the new reservation.

I only have one login. To be honest, separate browsers on the same computer worked for me (IE and Chrome), but I think separate tabs in the same browser causes problems.

Couldn't you just call MS and see what the availability is and if there is just move the reservation and points. Or did I miss something?

Online opens at 8am and phone opens at 9am..
If trying to get a hard to get booking at 7mo. They Could be gone by they time you get through on the phone
