We did a non-budget minded thing. We booked an extra evening at WDW
. We go annually for free dining, and usually take the first flight out on Fri, but since that won't get us to the park until about 1:30, DH suggested we leave Thurs afternoon, and surprise DD6 with dinner at CM. We're thinking of putting her in school for half a day, and then giving her some excuse why we need her to come home early. It won't be a huge surprise, since she'll be aware we were supposed to be leaving the following morning. I'm trying to come up with a way to make it extra special, since we've had some major family stress for a while (teenager related). Our flight is about 3, and we usually have car service to the airport. DD loves Jetblue, so last year DH took her on a bunch of dry runs to the airport (it's about 10 min from our house). If DH was driving, we could tell her we were going on a dry run, but not so easy with a transport van....

We might wake them up at 3am and tell them we're leaving at 4 for a 6:30am flight.
