Need fun for kids, but non-character, recommendations-- any help?

Hi! We're going to WDW in a few weeks, and have the dining plan, but it was sort of a last minute decision, so I didn't get a chance to prepare (okay, obsess) like I would've liked.

Character ADRS are pretty nonexistent at this point, so thankfully I have a few already booked. But, I do need something for the evening after we leave AK (Friday, 5/28). We're not hopping, so any suggestions at AK, DTD, or resorts that would be fun for the kids (ages 6 and 2), and still possible to get an ADR at this late date? (Oh, and it needs to be on the DDP, too.)

Yak & Yeti (yum), Rainforest Cafe (AK or DTD), TRex are some that spring to mind.

What about taking a bus from AK to BW or BC. At the BC, Beaches and Cream might be fun.

Or at BW, ESPN is supposed to be good, and you could walk up and down the boardwalk. DS (6) loved the magicians and plate spinners and stuff out there! Plus, you can usually see some of the fireworks from Fantasmic and Illuminations from the Beach Club. Just a thought-something different!

to do Rain Forest cafe or T-rex, call the restaurant directly for a reservation (priority seating in their parlance.) They release only some of their seats to Disney Dining. You will have better luck, especially closer to the time of your trip, at getting a table by doing this.

Both Ohana and Wilderness Lodge have parades for the kids during dinner that are really fun. 50's Prime Time is fun also since the waitstaff plays with the kids and acts in character. DS had a blast there!

Rainforest Cafe & T-Rex do not participate on the regular DDP, so those are out for the op. I would suggest Ohana, but I think you would not be able to get an adr this close to your trip. Whispering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge or 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian would be fun for your kids - not sure what if/any adrs would be available. Good luck!

'Ohana at the Polynesian and Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge immediately jump out as potential options. Both are rowdy, boisterous restaurants with parades and other entertainment designed for children.

I also recommend considering 50's Prime Time Cafe and Sci-Fi Dine-In at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Fun trumps food at these places, but kids don't seem to care much.

I don't think DHS will work as the OP doesn't have hopppers and they are doing AK that day.

I would go with Downtown Disney as you also have to consider all the transport changes to get from one place to the next. Not sure if you have a car.

As far as resorts go though, I do agree with WCC and they are more likely to get a ressie there at short notice than at Ohana. I would add that Ohana is not totally out, as long as you are willing to try your luck by arriving there and checking for any cancellations on the day.

Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately, I just called TRex and Rainforest, and both said they do not take DDP.

We have an Ohana breakfast scheduled for the following day. I was thinking if we left AK at closing and went to the Wilderness Lodge (or Ft. Wilderness???) for a meal, maybe there or other things to do there (hayride, see horses, etc.) Does anyone know which place would be best?

try Cape May dinner buffet- I was just able to get a dinner there for our trip in three weeks- we are doing it on the same day as AK

Both the Wilderness lodge Whispering Canyon and Ft. Wilderness are great. Whispering canyon is entertaining during dinner, with not much else to do at the resort but walk around and see the area. You can walk over to Ft. Wilderness from there.
Ft Wilderness has 2 options for dinner...Trails end buffet (great food but no entertainment during dinner) or Mickey's Backyard BBQ. Both are good options, depending on what is available. You can walk around there before/after dinner, see the horses, pony rides, take a hay ride or carriage ride. Fun place to go.
Other great options are Raglan Road in DTD, Ohana's, 1900 Park Fare, Boma, Tusker House in AK. These are all great atmosphere/food locations. Good luck, I hope you find something that works!

On days we do the AK we like to head over to the AK Lodge and eat in Boma. It is a great buffet and the resort is beautiful. The loby is wonderful and there are alot of great things to check out in the loby. I am sure your kids might enjoy walking out to the Savana and checking out the animals. There is also a firepit they tell stories around in the evening.

I'd think about heading to FW and doing Trail's End. There are lots of things to do with the kids there, campfire, movie, petting zoo. A little bit of a trip to get to FW, but well worth it.

What is the healthiest rest. ? Coral Reef? That is the only one that comes to mind. Please give me some suggestions... My son has Prader-Willi syndrome and is on a calorie controlled diet and needs low carb high protein type meals. I know we can make almost any place (TS) ok for him. But I was just wondering which place would be easiest to navigate through all the choices.

Whispering Canyon Cafe @ The Wilderness Lodge was a fun place to eat and the food was good too. It should be an easier place to get an ADR. You can catch the Wilderness Lodge Bus from AK if the ADR timing works or you can catch a Downtown Disney Bus and transfer to a Wilderness Lodge Bus there. This (DTD to WL) is what we did but be sure to give yourself plenty of time to catch the buses and get to your ADR on time.

Our kids were the same age as yours (we went back in December) and they loved it. They loved the stick horse race they did around the restaurant. DH asked for a fork and the waiter brought him out a 3 feet long fork (got great photos!). Ask for ketchup and every waiter will bring you a bottle. I believe they also have everyone get up and do the Hokey-Pokey. It was a fun atmosphere. The resort is really beautiful and interesting for the kids as well.

Our kids love Boma, and I've heard great things about WCC. Our kids also liked Trail's End, and then we walked around the campground afterwards.
