We are traveling to WDW 8/12 to 8/22. DD5 wears glasses. We are at our optical store aleast once if not twice a wk to have her glasses adjusted. We are in there soo often they told dd that she was going to have to start working for them!! I know there in no way that she will be able to go that long w/o getting them adjusted. We do have a vehicle so getting to an optical store is not a problem but where is one? I can't remember seeing one before but then we didn't need it last year. Does the Walmart have an optical store that will adjust the glasses? We are staying at OKW if that makes a difference.

sometimes we are there twice in less than 20 hours. They are a princess snow white wishing mirror glasses-- soo cute but soo easy to mangle!

Any assistance would be great

That sounds like a problem. Are they really unadjusted or does she just "want" it? Are they that crooked every day? They sound cute, but not very practical for your purposes.

My son had glasses as a smaller kid. We solved the problem by getting a 2nd pair. If one went out of wack, we had him use the 2nd pair.

They are a wire frame so they do get out of whack often. Someone bigger than her can bump into her and they are all screwed up. They are soo cute, I just wished I knew about the tendency to get messed up easily. The ladies at the optical place say it is common w/ young kids to come in often for adjustments. Thank goodness it is about a 5 mins drive there. It costs us about 10cents in meter parking. I was debating on getting an extra pair. I purchased this thru the optical shop at the dr office. I did pay more than lenscrafter but I hate walking to lenscrafter -- they always try to get you to pay for extras that you don't need. Also I didn't get a second pair right away bc she uses the glasses for Lazy eye/near sightedness. The dr started her out in a lower prescription -- he didn't want to start too high bc it would be harder for the eye to adjust to a lower prescription later on. She has had them since Feb so may be it is an okay time to get that 2nd pair. She does get soo many compliments on how cute she looks in her glasses.

yes, the walmart on 535 has an optical department. Just take 536, I believe to 535, and make a right. Wal-Mart will be on your right.

One more idea too- bring along an eyeglass repair kit- I found one in a $1 bin at target- but it is something we don't travel without after DH had his glasses mishap at MK- He lost a screw from the frames- and there was no place to fix them. Eventually we went to the MK camera store- and he had tiny screws and a screwdriver and fixed them for him temporarily.

We never opted for wire ones for my son. We just knew it would be too many problems with adjustment, fit and activity! We went for the metal and/or plastic frames and he did fine. He's now in contacts so it's one less thing we have to deal with.

A back up pair might not be a bad idea. There are lots of threads on Zenni Optical --and some frames/lenses are $8. My precious vacation time is worth another $8 pair of glasses.

Also, with the hot sun, wouldn't see be wearing sunglasses? I get headaches if I wear my regular glasses in Florida.

Thanks for the walmart info. Her glasses are a metal frame- the sides are usually what gets pushed out of place. I am afraid to try to adjust them myself- I once broke a pair of my own trying to align them. I will definitely go and look for a backup pair too. I did purchase the clip on sun glasses with our disney trips in mind. They are the matching set to her glasses.

Those who have ordered on line - how do you know the fit/size is right? The ones she has now gives her room to grow. Not small but not too big.

Maybe I will swing by the walmart near us and look to see what they have for kids glasses.

Thanks for the suggestions

I second the Zenni Optical suggestion.

Order her a regular pair and a tinted pair to use as sunglasses with plastic frames. You can get a good idea of her current frame size by measuring her current glasses. On the zenni optical website in the descriptions they tell you the frame measurements.

Your optician will give you her prescription and her PD number.
