Hello all,
I need some advice. Today I went to a gym, with a friend to start on our way to weight loss and getting fit. I am 214lbs and haven't exercised for YEARS. The schedule we were given said "Modern Yoga" for today, but it was an old schedule and it was a Spinning class. We did it. I am dying  My legs are killing me. Walking up and down my steps is quite the painful experience.

OK, now for your advice. We were going to go to class tomorrow, called Fat Burning, I don't know what it is really. If I can move in the morning should I go, or should I take 2 days off? I can't go Wed., so if I skip tomorrow it will be Thurs and that is a Step class.

TIA. I am proud that I started, but I don't want to hurt myself!

Here is my opinion (but you will get differing opinions): GO!!!

Honestly, I push myself all the time-- when you wake up tomorrow after your first spinning class, you will be in PAIN!!! You will be lucky if you CAN even move... you will want to lay in bed and never get out. It may hurt to breath. It won't be fun.

Or, you can be like some people and not get the full brunt of it until Wednesday (but still feel something tomorrow).

That said... whether or not you feel like a giant semi ran you over tomorrow, go to the fat burning class. When you get out of bed, it will be hard, but you will find that as you move a bit, you will start to loosen up and feel better. I find that when I start moving again and get into working out that day is when I feel a lot better. So go. The worst that will happen is that you will have to sit out some of the exercises. Make sure that you do a lot of stretching before time, and you shouldn't hurt yourself (maybe even get there a little earlier).

I've taken a ton of different aerobics classes, but never one that is just "fat burning." I wonder if that is just "regular" aerobics, maybe with some weights thrown in?? No matter what it is, if you feel like the class is getting to be too much, take a breather and just march in place until you feel ok again. It takes about 3-6 weeks to make a habit, and that goes for exercise as well. You don't want to push so much that you don't go back, but you don't want to not go so often that you don't get into the habit. You sound motivated now, and because of that, I would go if I were you!

trust me, you will get to the point where it is not that difficult (and then you just do more to get that burn!!)

I think you should go. I don't know what the Fat Burning class entails, but chances are you will be using different muscles than you did cycling. That is of course unless you are doing squats and lunges... But even then, you will be stretching the muscles that are aching from cycling. Be sure to stretch often. Sometimes the worst thing you can do is nothing - the muscles just want to seize up (at least for me anyway, that is why I am in the most pain after just waking up or sitting for a long period). So jump right back on that horse, you will be amazed at how quickly your body adjusts and soon you won't be quite as sore after each workout. KEEP IT UP! :cheer2:

Thanks! I am going. I hurt, but its not horrible. I made it down the stairs! I do want to keep trying.

Thanks so much for your help!

I'm back. Thanks so much for your advice. It was a step aerobics class for the first 40 min. Then we did arms with little weights and tummy crunches, etc, followed by stretching. I wasn't able to keep up with all the stepping, but I kept moving. My legs hurt now, but not so much while I was moving. Tomorrow is a day off, but I will have to stretch.
Thanks so much! I am proud of me for going.
