Need Ebay advice - Unverified

I just sold our old Super Nintendo game system with 4 games. I got a reasonable price. The buyer paid instantly with paypal but she is unverified with her address also being unverified. She is very new to ebay (as of Dec 3, 2005) I have asked her to please verify her address with paypal before I send the game system. If she doesn't do this should I contact ebay, or paypal. I have had a lot of trouble lately with no payment from new ebayers and a number of my regulars have had their accounts broken into and are no longer registered.

I would tell her "sorry, but you have to verify with paypal before shipping" Otherwise, you lose your Paypal protection and if she files a claim with paypal - and paypal refunds her money - not only are you out your item, you will be out the shipping as well. It's very easy to become verified with Paypal - or she could send you a money order/cashier's check if she really wants the item.

I would give her a little time to get it done. My wife had a lot of problems getting paypal set up before, due to ebay having 2 different email addresses. So it took about a week to straighten out and luckily the buyer (in this case) waited long enough for her to fix it. Give the newbie a chance, but don't send the merchandise until it is fixed.

Thanks that is exactly what I planning on doing. They did respond to me through ebay with their address (which is not the same as that listed on Paypal) I very nicely explained that I would send it out immediately once they were verified on Paypal and that I could send them the directions to do that if they needed help.

I would give her a few days. I know it took almost a week for paypal to do the bank deposit for me to verify in order to get my account verified through them. It might be that she signed up for verification when she opened up her account and it's in process.

It's too late for you but in the future include this in your eBay listings:

"PayPal buyers must possess a confirmed PayPal address and shipment will be made only to the address showing in the PayPal transaction confirmation page."

Also quote only USPS rates. If the confirmed address is a post office box you cannot ship to that address via UPS or FedEx.

Actually you may take a chance on getting one strike (three strikes and you're out of eBay) and insist that the buyer acquire a confirmed PayPal address or pay using another means. You are subject to a negative feedback. I highly doubt the case will go to court if the seller really expects to get the item.

Unless the OP had that she only ships to verified PayPal addresses in her auction she has to follow through with her end of the auction. Everyone was new once.

If you don't have it listed in your auction that you'll only ship to paypal verified buyers, you cannot insist on it after the fact. As sellers, we have to list everything up front that a buyer must comply with.

Thank you this is some great advice. I have been corresponding with the buy and she states she will verify the address so I guess I will wait until the end of the week then send it in good faith and hope for the best. I have only had one problem on ebay so far and that was a seller that didn't send my item then closed their paypal account. Lucky for me it was only $11.00 but I am still out and DD didn't get her birthday present.

I guess with such a big ticket item, I would be more concerned. But, if she's paid I would go ahead and send. The only thing I would make sure of is a record-- of the requested address and of the item being sent to the requested addrtess.

I personally think the "confirmed" address is a little over-rated as it just verifies that the credit card on file at Paypal has the billing address listed as the ship to address. This does offer some additional protection. I also think there are lots of legitimate reasons for wanting something shipped someplace else. (perhaps the billing address is a po box, perhaps it is a gift for someone who lives somewhere else, and in this case, maybe they want it shipped to a friends house so that kids don't see before the 25th!)

Also, for many months I was unwilling to give paypal all that info so that I could be "confirmed" -- I just wasn't at a place where I trusted them with my CC info. I would not have done it for a seller that didn't list it as a requirement (many do).

There is that small percentage of folks trying to steal from us on ebay, but I beleive the majority are dealing in good faith. If this person paid that quickly and has been emailing you they probably okay!

I've sent many items to unconfirmed addresses after verifying through emails which address to "send to." Also on big ticket items I require insurance. On small items I ship USPS and buy delivery confirmation.
