My 18yo nephew is going to recieve his Eagle Scout award in the spring. :thumbsup2 We are so proud of him. I'd like to give him something special for it, but I'm at a loss. I'm sure he'd love money, but I wanted it to be more personal than that. He's planning to go on some kind of Wyoming survival camp with the older boys later in the summer--I guess I could help him fund that. :confused3 Or give to a charity in his honor(and a small giftie to him.)

If you earned your Eagle,or know someone who did, what would you suggest? What would be very meaningful to you??

Ask me again on Monday. DS James is having his Eagle Scout court of honor this Sunday. So far he has received a lot of cards with gift certificates and checks from people who cannot attend. I have seen a catalog published by the Boy Scouts of America that has all sorts of Eagle Scout items. Unfortunately I don't have it anymore. Perhaps someone can find a link on the web.

A nice card with money for his survival trip would probably be VERY meaningful to an 18yo.

Being a relative, you may want to do something a bit "bigger", but when I attend an Eagle Court of Honor for a scout I know, my standard gift is a US Silver Eagle $1 coin minted in the year that they earned their Eagle. An uncirculated one is about $8, but a "proof coin" would be around $28. The US Mint also offer gold, and platinum "eagle" coins.

www.scoutstuff.org is the official website/catalog for the Boy Scouts. There is a section with lots of Eagle Scout gifts.

My son received his Eagle Scout award 2.5 years ago. He did like the cash - he banked it all and it helped him buy his 1994 Ford Mustang Convertible last summer.

Some of his more treasured gifts were an Eagle metal book marker, Eagle Scout commemorative penknife, and an Eagle fleece throw.

Speaking as the Mom of a Scout who has attended the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, as well as two National Scout Jamborees in Virginia and NOACS in Iowa and this year's upcoming one in Michigan - $$$ would be very welcome - some of these trips cost over $1500.00 each.

Congratulations to your nephew.

And Towncrier - congrats to James, as well. What type of ceremony did he decide on? My son had the Order of the Arrow Native American one. We held it at the Amphitheater of the Scout Camp and had a tipi and the Dance and Ceremonies Team (my son is a member of both groups).

Congratulations to James :cool1: Seeing how much work my nephew put in to this award, I am very impressed now when I meet someone else who has done it.

I have to get something for an Eagle on Sunday and this sounds cool. Does the bank have them??

We will be attending our 1st Eagle ceremony in 2 weeks. I love your idea - where do you get the Silver Eagle coins.

You should be able to get them from a local coin dealer... or you can order them directly from the US Mint. Here's their link.
