Need DLR Info!

Have been planning, planning for WDW. Airfare rates just were released for our airport this weekend @ $79 each way for July/Aug. I checked today and they are up to $149 each way. Flights to Vegas are still within our budget.

I am thinking of flying to Vegas, staying a couple of days there since DH and I have a couple of free nights coming. Then driving to Anaheim.

Is the drive from Vegas to Anaheim about 4 hours?

Are there touring plans available for DLR? I subscribed to tour guide Mike before this happened and LOVED that I actually had a plan.

DS REALLY wants to see/meet Capt. Jack. This is the whole reason he has asked to go to Disney this summer! Where can we meet him?

Thinking about two days at DLR. Is that enough? DH is NOT into Disney, so the quicker the better.

All I really know is that DLR is smaller and in California. There seems to be SO much more info about WDW than DL. I'm actually a little excited about possibly seeing DLR. We've been to MK at WDW and did DCL. LOVE new experiences! Any help will be appreciated!

Well I live in Vegas and it's right about 4 hours give or take 10-15 minutes!! The only time I wouldn't plan on heading from here to CA is on Sundays from about 10am-3pm, which is check out time for all the weekenders heading back!!

I have met Captain Jack in New Orleans Square just standing by the shops. He roams around quite a bit during the day.

Can't help on touring plans as we have our own little plan that we've built over the years! In July or August though, I would defintely try to squeeze three days out of it if you can get DH to agree!

Thanks Andrea! That's exciting that Capt. Jack just walks around. All I could find about him at MK is that he does a 20 min. appearance. The kids don't get to "meet" him, just watch. He does pull some of the audience into the show, but that's it.

DL's version of POTC is awesome compared to MKs. DL alone has a lot more attractions than MK, plus there is a second park. 2 days would be a quick commando trip, with little time to ride favorites more than once.

Well I don't know if he meets everyone, but he was walking past wandering around for a while (I saw him while standing in the same spot waiting for people to get off Pirates) and he stopped and talked/played with my son in his stroller. It was cute!

Nothing like TGM exactly, but RideMax is tried and true. I have used it myself. See www.ridemax.com.

If your DH is not into Disney, two days will probably be about right. But seeing DLR properly is better done over 3-4 days. There are some amazing shows at DLR, a couple of which are better than any shows at WDW in my opinion. That would be Remember Dreams Come True fireworks/laser/special effects show, and Aladdin at DCA.

Well, I guess as long as DS gets to see Jack, it will be all good. I'm also going to negotiate for 3 days.
Thanks Hydroguy for the link. I happened upon one of your threads last night after posting. WOW! You have some awsome info. I will probably give ridemax a try. I will feel better with a plan.

We go to WDW every year but we also went to DL for the 50th anniversary.

It was awesome!

I am a Magic Kingdom girl all the way-- my DH has to force me into the other parks, and by 4pm I'm jonesing to get back to the MK. So I was quite surprised when I liked DL even better! The Fantasyland is phenomenal. The buildings for the rides and the queues are so much more detailed. They have Mr. Toad's Wild Ride! I had missed that guy. Overall, Disneyland has more stuff and it's also compact compared to WDW. ToonTown is much better, Pirates is, too. We were there when the Haunted Mansion was decorated for Halloween, which was fantastic. I wish WDW did the same. The updated Space Mountain is a blast-- smooth and fast and just awesome. I collect Christopher Radko ornaments and there is a tiny boutique in New Orleans Square that just sells those. I loved it (and spent way too much $).

What's not better: the food. With the exception of the Blue Bayou, the food seemed like amusement park stuff. I find most WDW food to be very good, including most of the counter service and especially at the resorts.

I also thought California Adventure was lame. It was like a Six Flags. We went once, enjoyed Soarin' (this was before it opened at WDW), but went back to DLP.

I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

If you enjoy the Magic Kingdom at WDW then you will love Disneyland Park. It is extra magical knowing that Walt Disney walked through that park!

Air prices have went back down today. Go figure.

I'm going to continue researching DLR, though. DH very possibly would prefer a different Disney area. He is a "been there, done that" kind of guy. When we started talking about taking DS to Disney again, he said "Florida. We've DONE that already." And, he LOVES Vegas.

I plan on pitching both scenarios. Wish me luck!
