I am looking into getting a new digital camera and thought this would be a great place to get suggestions. I know prices have come down a bit and would like to stay under $300 for a decent camera. Thanks in advance for your help!

You're welcome. :goodvibes

See, I stepped out to another forum and came back. Its o.k. to look at the DIS Discussion Forums list....really. just kidding all. The only real problem, is possibly getting addicted to more threads ............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I'll go ahead and add my input. DH just was tasked with the same thing. New camera, under $300 including everything we needed for our recent trip. He got a Canon A540 (I'm pretty sure that was the model). He bought it at Fry's Electronics and I love it. Good tools, great photos and will do videos too. We did a few movies and about 200 pictures on one memory thing.

I too LOVE LOVE LOVE the Canon's - there are several great ones - the Elphs are AMAZINg - but too pricey for us - it's what my bro & Mil both have - We had to stick with the less expensivee A series (the models change regularly ) not sure what mine is - BUT wouldn't trade it for anything (actually not even for an Elph - they are too small for my big hands!)

Go to best Buy where you can hold them & play with them & then go search for the lowest price after you know what you like.

The photographry forum will give you some links on good review sites out there - I think there's one called Dave's reviews -it shows a good photo of camera & then TONS of info about it...

GOod LUCK!

make sure you get a camera with a view finder also. When taking pix you should always have your back to the sun.....well when you do that, you really can't see the digitial screen - making a view finder that much more essential.

Just adding my 2 cents. I was in the market for a new camera also and got some great advice on this thread....

I decided that the Canon A710 IS was the best camera for me but couldn't find it in any stores. My DH surprised me, found it on the internet for $320 and gave it to me for our anniversary this past weekend. It is a WONDERFUL camera! Easy to use, small but large enough to know you have it in your hands and it takes wonderful pictures. I am especially impressed with the night time pictures. We took a haunted trolly ride (one that told true ghost stories not just to scare you) and the pictures from the pitch black cemetary turned out great. Great optical zoom too. Only problem I've had so far is figuring out the instruction book (reference page numbers don't match up). But I've only had it a few days.

Good luck....there's a lot of choices out there!

Thanks one and all for your two cents! I am in the early stages of looking and your information is most helpful.
