I want to buy a digitial "snapshot-style" camera that takes decent stills. I don't want something bulky, I want to be able to easily stick the camera in my purse or fannypack or even a pocket. I don't want to spend more than $200. Any ideas/hints/tips? I am one of the most techo-illiterate folks around, and my eyes tend to glaze over when people talk about pixels, etc.
Any advice would be appreciated, especially maybe even where to buy...

We just purchased a Canon SD400 which is more than you want to spend but the SD200 is a 3.3 megapixel and very compact. I cannot imagine that you will find a smaller camera (3.4 x 2 x .8 and only .25lb) with all of the options this camera has. I did a search on epinions and they show stores listing it for $208. We are thrilled with ours and it is so compact that I don't even notice it in my purse.

I have a Konica/Minolta Dimage G600.

I'm an amateur photographer so I did a pantload of research for a point and shoot digital.

This camera's small, tough, light, takes gorgeous pictures (see my signature-that's a self portrait) the battery lasts forever, and you can take little 30 second mini movies on it. We got it specifically for using at Disney, and it's been a blast!

It's also really easy to use, just a few obvious buttons here and there.

Last trip we took almost 500 pictures, all held on the flash card- get a hi speed 60 pqi 256 mb SD. It's a little blue memory chip that holds a ton of photos.

i got the KODAK LS753, its great, small enough for your pocket, and takes great picutres since its 5MP. only cost about $175 on ebay.

I vote for an easyshare. 7300 series will run 89$ up brand new these days. I would get some memory cards so your not worrying about running out of memory before uploading, you just switch out the cards. Cards are also pretty cheap at walmart or buy.com.

I had one, it was stolen last year. Purchased another, my college age daughter confiscated that, just got another -- I have the printer dock - I use it if I want photoshop laminated quality picture right now, else I use snapfish. If your savvy - you can get a bunch of free prints from the different online photo places.

I have a Fuji Film A330 - and I really like it. Part of what I like it - built into the camera is a cover for the lens - so it does not get scratched. And secondly is it runs on 2 AA batteries - so if my batteries get drained - I can easily go into a store and pick up more batteries on the go (maybe expensively on property - but it is not a rechargable or a wierd size battery I might not find).

But more importantly - you need to consider if you already have memory cards - and if so what kind are they. Or does someone else you know (ie friend, significant other ..) already have a digital camera and you could borrow memory cards from.

All the different brands that people have mentioned use various memory cards. And when you buy a camera you normally get the SMALLEST memory card available - it will hold only a limited number of pictures.

So - basically you will need to buy more memory to go on your wonderful Disney vacation. Personally - I buy my memory cards at either the 256mb or 512mb break. Yes a 1 gig memory card exists - but sometimes memory cards fail - and I would hate to ONLY have that one 1 gig card - and then suddenly have to buy memory cards for my camera on vacation. Plus it would break my heart if all my pictures from my trip were on that memory card that failed.

Just more food for thought
