We were looking at our videos from the last cruise, I have a panasonic vhs-c, and we had 5 tapes that we had to view to see all of our cruise memories.. This prompted a discussion about taking the tapes and converting them and then buring to DVD.. This lead to another conversation of.. let's get a new camcorder.. that will we be able to download and then burn DVD's ..

So I am looking for a digital camcorder that will record more than 20 minutes of tape, be easy to use. DH is not interesteing in anything beyond point and shoot.

Any suggestions? Places I can look to get inforamtion.

Thanks

Oh, Sure, Don't ask in the Tagliarchy ;)

I checked a bunch out a couple of months ago for Cheeringmom, and I liked the Sony DCRTRV19KITB. here is a link to the Sony page...

The DCRTRV22KITB and DCRTRV33KITB are identical, but have digital cameras built in. The problem I found out is that you can get a much nicer digital camera for the difference.

I would say got to a Circuit City (they had the best sale last week), or best buy, and look at them.

Secret....the ones that write to DVD only write 30 minutes to a small DVD, and have much shorter battery life. Also, if you wait until March, they usually have the new models coming out and discounts accordingly.....

There are lots of other brands that are OK as well, but I liked the picture quality of the Sony the best when I looked at cameras in the $500-$600 range. If you go up to the $1000+ range you can get a much better one.....

OhanaFamily what I really should have done is just PMed you and RRBB ..
Thanks.. I don't want one with a digital camera in it.. this becomes too complicated for DH to handle and he presses the wrong button at the wrong time..beside I have a very nice Cannon powershot..

I will start looking.. and you are right I don't NEED to buy until the week or so before the trip.. on the other hand it would be nice to have DS#2's Bridging and Arrow Of Light Ceremony on tape as well as DS#1's Court of Honor where he becomes a Star ( this is Boy scout talk) and DS#2's band concert..

Thanks.. I will check BB etc..

I would say go with anything Canon.

We have a Canon digital camcorder and we love it. We also love our Canon digital camera.

I also bought a seperate camcorder and still digital camera because I don't really care for the quality of pictures when they are combined.

I think we have the Canon ZR45MC or ZR65MC.

Very small and easy to use. Very easy to transfer the video to our computer.

I would suggest a sony digital8 camcorder. You can get easily an hour of video on each tape, and then you can plug the camcorder into the computer to burn to dvd. The new digital 8 camcorders are nice because they also have a camera mode, and give you a memory stick to save digital pictures on. I have an older model digital 8 camera (one of the first digitals to come out) and my mom got a newer model a year ago, hers is much smaller than mine and weighs less, which is nice, and hers has the memory stick to save digital pics on. The digital 8s are less money than the mini dvs by about 300 - 500
dollars, and they are nice and easy to use, just point and shoot, as you stated. Trust me, if my mom can use it, anyone can. :p

Thanks I will check those out..
