Need CT to WDW travel Tip

I am not sure if this is the right board to ask this but

We are driving to WDW from CT and I recall reading about an alternate route (other than Rte 95) that doesn't go thru Baltimore and DC. It looks like it may be Route 81.

But do you cut back to 95 in Richmond or do you take it further south

Hmmm can't say I've ever heard of that. Once in a while we drive instead of flying but we always take 95. I would love to know the shortcut as well for future reference!

I don't think its a shortcut. As a matter of fact i think it takes longer. The advantage is that its an alternate route that bypasses Baltimore and DC and the potential for traffic there.

It is not a shortcut, but a couple of hours longer depending on where you are coming from. I start out on I 81 and have about 5 choices to get to 95. I usually pick up US 17 in Winchester Va and take it to 95 in Fredricksburg. I have also gone 81 to 77 to 26 to 95, and that is about the same distance and the only big city is Charlotte, NC. The advantage is you avoid NYC, Philly, Balt. and DC.

Back in Feb when we drove down from Maine, we took 95-495-290-90-84-81-77-26-95. We left Maine on a Saturday morning & spent our 1st night in Winchester VA, after driving for 11 1/2 hours, with alot of stops during the day. Arrived in Jacksonville Beach Sunday night after a 10 Hour drive, with alot of stops. We enjoyed the drive, not much traffic on weekends, until we hit Georgia.
