Hey all,

My wife and I want to give our son who is going away to college in January our old desktop for him to use in his apartment. The question we have is how can we go about clearing everything off of it so that it is like it was when we brought it home a year and a 1/2 ago. Basically we just want it to not have any of our old data or programs on it. Thanks in advance. For information, it is a petium 3 that has windows XP as the operating system.

If you have the 'restore disk' that came with the computer when new, using that will put the computer back to the way it was when purchased. All data will be lost, as well as any updates (drivers, security, etc). If you do that, it probably is best to as least use Windows Update to bring the PC, security-wise, up to current status. Also, make sure the PC has a good, up to date, anti-virus/security program installed.
