I'm a pharmacy tech, and need to find comfy shoes for work. I'm on my feet all day, but not walking, pretty much standing in one spot. By the end of the day my knees and hips are killin me! They have to be closed toe shoes. I have teva mushes I live in and adore, they're the only things I wear to Disney anymore. I wish they made something similar with a closed toe. Any suggestions?

Let me start out by saying they are ugly and expensive, but the best shoes I have ever worn are zcoils. My back kills me if I wear any other shoe to work.

I would suggest getting orthotics if you are going to be on your feet all day every day and have pain or issues. They will give you the support you need, and can be used with whatever shoe you choose to wear. Depending on your medical coverage, they could be covered, but if not would probably be appx $300 from a good podiatrist or orthopedist and will last for years.

Look into some of the new toning type shoes. While I don't know that they really tone your legs like they say, the do offer a LOT of extra cushion. If you need something other then a tennis shoe, try Clarks, Born or Monroe brand shoes. I would also ask the pharmacy to get those padded floor mat things to stand on. They help as well.

I got my first pair of Danskos a few months ago and I'm hooked. The first time I wore them was when we spent a weekend in NYC (tons of walking--comprable to what most probably do in Disney) and then from there I went to Shanghai, where again, I was probably walking at least 6 miles a day just exploring around. I even climbed the Great Wall of China in Beijing in my Danskos!

I second Dansko. Most are pretty ugly in my opinion but if you are a pharmacy tech and are wearing a pharmacy coat and pants, the Dansko clogs may work out well for you. I wear dresses and suits most days so they really don't work for me. I wear some of their heeled, closed toe pumps and they are very supportive.

I know some nurses who love those toner shoes (they don't really do that, but they say they are very cushioned). I recently bought my first pair of Clarks and have been astonished at how much better my feet feel (of course, I'm not on my feet all day like you are). The padded floor mats are also a great idea!

my DD21 is a nursing student and bought herself Dansko clogs to wear to clinicals. She loves them...no painful feet or legs at the end of the day! I want a pair for myself now!

I have a pair of Ariats that are wonderful. They are a boot company, but they make shoes that look a lot like the Danskos, but they're not a clog.

They're not cheap, but it's worth it to stand in them and not have my feet hurt.

I got them at the Walking Company, and I'd suggest checking that store for some options. They were really helpful when I bought the Ariats.

Also a nurse, I alternate between Danskos and Sketcher Shape Ups for work (the work ones have non skid bottoms). I prefer the Sketcher Shape ups to the Danskos, I tend to turn my ankles in the danskos more, but that misght be because I am clumsy.

Invest in good shoes, they are totally worth it. A lot of nurses I work with swear by Alegrias, but they are hideous. They have memory foam in the sole.

My DS is in retail sales and on his feet 8 hours at a time. He loves the Vibram 5 fingers toe shoes. They are not all padded but the foot bed is totally supportive and he no longer has knee/hip/back issues like he did when he wore regular shoes.

Dansko, Born, Merrell, Ecco, Keen, and sometimes Clarks.
