Hi all, DVC feels like family, so thought I would ask for help.

DD-7 has her second kidney stone (1st at age 3). We need the names of a really good child kidney doctor, and child urologist, in the Chicagoland area, if anyone knows of one.

When we adopted DD, at age 3, we were told by Northwestern that they couldn't help, and that she was the second youngest they've heard of (apparently, someone had a baby born with a kidney stone).

We can take meds to prevent the kidney stone formation, but every medicine has side effects, and would prefer to find the root cause if we could (cause only happens to one kidney, not the other).

More info, she had surgery in country before we got her (part of the reason we got her cause of the great medical in the US of A).

So far she's been stable and healthy, but I'd really like to get to the bottom of this if possible, to get it fixed.

Right now her kindey doctor is out of U of Chicago....

so names and phone numbers please...

If anyone has an opinion,

please email me,

Thanks everyone, Goldi

I can't help, but it seems to me that if you are taking your child to U of Chicago, they are excellent doctors there, I am surprised they can't help you. Perhaps Mayo?? Good luck! I'm sure there will be Dis people who can give you actual names of doctors who can help you. :grouphug:

No names here either Goldi and I agree that UofC should have excellent doctors. Have you tried for a second opinion at Children's? Or Loyola?

No help with doctors here, I live far away and am unfamiliar with the area. I just wanted to send prayers and good thoughts for your daughter. I have had chronic kidney stones myself, and my heart goes out to your child. I hope you find a good doctor who can help.

But sometimes it just takes finding the right person to solve the right problem.

So if anyone has had good experiences, we'd be grateful for the referral.

In the meantime, we have 3 doctor's appt between now and Aug scheduled with various experts (and have had 2 already)....

So kinda tired, and just thought I'd see if anyone else had any ideas....

Thanks, Goldi

I wish you luck with this. Our daughter has had kidney stones since she was a little girl (we didn't know why she kept having pain at first - it took a while to figure out it was indeed kidney stones). After her last episode with a stone (doctor was able to zap it and break it up) her urologist has recommended her to Indiana Nephrology and Internal Medicine for her kidney stones. They are trying to figure out why her body keeps making the stones. My daughter's urologist in Indianapolis is a Dr. Bennett (he's with Urology of Indiana). Dr. Bennett has said he wants our Amy to not have to deal with this anymore. He wants to get to the "cause" instead of sugically having to remove them or bust them up.

Good luck with your daughter.

Chicago Magazine has a Best Doctors (I think it's voted by peers) issue but I couldn't find mine. I'm not sure it would have a pediatric nephrologist in there, anyways, because it's so specialized. But, it may be worth looking into--check the library. Good luck!
