I'm trying to educate a group of friends on why dinner at Chef Mickey's might be wonderful for check in night. I'm looking for a thread or two with variable opinions, not just the great but I'll need plenty of those because I really want them to say yes!

I tried search but just couldn't find the threads I know I've seen.

Deb had three big sets of Hoop Dee Doo so I'm all set with that one but I didn't see Chef Mickey reviews on her site. Maybe I overlooked it.

We have eaten dinner and breakfast at CM many times and loved every meal. We have PS for the first night of our upcoming trip.

Dinner usually has a small salad area, at least two carvings (every time we have been there it was prime rib and another meat), fish, chicken and the usual side dishes. The garlic mashed potatoes are fantastic. There is always a soup, too. I know at breakfast they have cheese and fruit, but it's been a few years since we had dinner there, soI can't remember. The kids buffet has the usual kiddie standards: mac/cheese hot dogs, chicken fingers, etc.

They have wonderful desserts, too. Ice cream and cakes. The cahracter interaction is great. It's Mickey, Minnie, Chip and Dale and Goofy helps the kids make cupcakes for dessert. It is a real party atmosphere. They play "up" music and they do a thing where you wave your napkin around. Very fun.

The nicest thing is that they take your picture when you arrive. At first I thought it was a cheap way to make money, but the picture was beautiful and we also got it in a magnet. I think it was around 20 bucks. It was nice since my parents were with us. It was a cool wasy to remember the trip, and get a photo with everyone in it.

The last time we ate here we had breakfast at that was wonderful, too. I guess I am partial, we really enjoy our meals here and do it once a trip.

Chef Mickey's is our family's absolute favorite restaurant. We've never done breakfast but always do dinner at least once a trip. The food is good. (I agree with Tink on the mashed potatoes!) The character interaction is fantastic. The desserts are to die for! In fact for three months before we went this time we all talked about the desserts at Chef Mickey's. Couldn't wait! I think it's a great idea to eat there on Check-In night. We've done that in the past and it's a great way to put everyone in the Disney Mood!!

We always eat at Chef Mickey's our first night. We make our reservation for about 1 1/2 hours before the MK fireworks, so when we're done with dinner we go up to the observation deck and watch the fireworks. It's a great way to begin your vacation!

We really enjoyed the food and character interaction at CMs. The characters came around A LOT!

But the best part was indeed the picture! We almost passed on it. Then we bought it ($25). We thought it was the 8 x 10 of our family and a small one of our family in a clear picture holder magnet. Only when we got home did we realize that there were two of everything you could see when they sold it to you. Two 8 x 10s of your family and two 8 x 10s of the CM characters by themselves together in a nice folder, and two magnets.

This is the best picture deal anywhere and well worth the money! We enjoyed dinner, but this was our favorite part of the meal!

One person we saw posted that they had a large family group, 20 or so people, and they got everyone in the picture and then everyone got a chance to buy the pic!

We did Chef Mickey's our first night this trip for the first time. It was just me and 4 yr old dd. A great place to go for the characters, when we arrived at the WL and had lunch at WCC she nagged me all day, where are Minnie & Mickey. Sure glad I booked that for that night.

The food was pretty good. I got to the salad bar when it was time for refilling but next time I'd just wait a bit because they were there soon after I took what was left. The prime rib was good as were the potatoes. The vegetable mixes were also good. I believe they had flank steak that night was well.

The dessert selection is definitey overwhelming. Should have just gone for dessert:p :p they had a chocolate mousse cake which was delicious. A cupcake table where the kids can pick a frosting and dip their cupcake and then put sprinkles on it. They have the ice cream (softserve) bar. And, meanwhile Donald and Goofy are hanging in the area there meeting and greeting.

Mickey, Minnie, Chip & Dale visit the tables and I thought the visits were timed very well. DD of course didn't eat much, she never does the first night and was so into the characters. Will probably do this again the first night for our next trip. The only bad thing is I'm always so pooped that first night and it shows in the picture:p

We always do Chef Mickey on our arrival night, too. We ate there on 8/3/02, and as much as it pains me so say this...I was a little disappointed. The potatoes were great and the chowder was really good. Other than that, it was just so-so, and I'm not a picky eater. The desserts were pretty good, though. I'm hoping it was just an "off" night and am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure we'll return on our next trip (probably won't be for a few years), although I would be open to finding something different to do on our arrival night.

P.S. I definitely think Chef Mickey is more fun if you're with a group of people!!

We love Chef Mickey's! In fact it has become a family tradition to start our visit off with Chef Mickey's. We love waving th napkins and singing! And the food is great!!
