I have 7 high school kids that come and volunteer an hour a day in my school library. It's through a class that they take at their school. I would like to get them each a little something at the end of the semester to thank them for all they have done.

They are nice kids and work hard but other than that, I don't know much about them. Most of the teachers spend between $10-20 on their end of the year gift but they only have one student who works with them. Since I have 7, I need to cut that cost WAY down.

Any suggestions??? Thoughts???

How about a pizza party (with soft drinks) at the end of their shift?

I'm sure they won't be expecting anything, so they would probably thrilled with the free food.

A good idea but they come at different times throughout the day. I was thinking of doing something like donuts for the morning kids but that didn't really seem like enough...

My mom was a school librarian before she retired. I know she used to buy each student their favorite snack and drink(she asked them) and let them have it during their library time. They always really loved it. Otherwise, maybe a book of some kind would be appropriate-a little gift type book with quotes or advice probably could be bought for $5-$10.

I'm a high school librarian who has 17 library assistants over the course of the day. The week before the semester ends, I invite them to stop by during their lunch shifts. I provide "party foods" like nachos, meatballs, little smokies, etc. They eat, socialize, and then I give them a little candy bag and handwritten thank-you card for all they have done for our school.

As a high school teacher, I can tell you that the best gift for HS kids is FOOD! No matter what you do (pizza, donuts, snack food...) they will LOVE it! :thumbsup2

I have one dd who volunteers in her HS library and the other volunteers in the HS guidance office- this is what the librarians and counselors do for them. Both my DDs commented on how nice it was.
