I'm going to be flying with a laptop and dslr camera. I'm thinking of using either a Lands End zip top tote (medium or large??) or a Vera Bradley Miller or Vera bag.

Either way I would put the laptop in a protective sleeve and just place the camera in the bag hoping to protect it a bit with other items I'll need to bring. No extra lenses or anything.

Which bag should I choose or do you have other ideas for a better bag to take?

I'd suggest getting a Lowepro CompuTrekker. They're a little pricey but will protect both your DSLR & laptop much better than a tote bag, and it will hold all your DSLR & laptop accessories in one place.

I do use a Vera Bradley Betsy bag for my "park bag" but then I don't have my laptop or DLSR accessories with me.

I carry my DSLR in a Lowepro bag. Just realize that you're probably going to want to keep it in something at the parks too, especially if it's going on rides with you and you get hit by a famous FL rain shower! The Lowepro has a pullout rain cover built in for the bag which was great in the rain. I wouldn't just toss it in a carry on, way too pricey and precious to risk damage IMHO
