I am trying to decide where to buy. We like to stay at BW and WL but SSR seems to be a better value because of the extra years. Is it cheaper to buy a SSR resale than direct from disney? Should I really buy where I like to stay? The BW resales seem competetive in price compared to SSR to me. Any advice would be very helpful.

Yes, you should buy where you would like to stay. The more mature DVC gets, the more folks realize that if they want to stay at their home resort (like most BWV and VWL folks do) they'll need to make reservations before other DVC folks get their chance, and that's happening more and more.

You said it right...................

Buy where you want to stay.
Look at the current thread " You guys are making me nervous "

You should buy where you would like to stay.

Although there are some posts on there where owners are being put on wait lists at 10 months out. BEFORE they even have to compete with non-owners. So . . . .

Thanks for all of the advice everybody. I think the best I can hope for right now is SSR with a BW add on. I am reluctant to try resales- I would hate to get my hopes up and wait and then Disney use ROFR.

Why not buy BWV direct via DVC? It is a little more expensive ($92 per point), but you will get all current '05 points, and DVC usually lets you bank them into '06 if you do not need them this year. That way, you can still use DVC financing, no closing costs, and you don't have to deal with ROFR. If you are flexible on your UY, you could probably get points immediately.

Also, if you use The Timeshare Store you should not be reluctant at all, they are really helpful and know what they are doing. But I do understand your concerns-- when we wanted to buy BCV last year the waitlist was very very long with disney so we put our names on anyway and said what the heck, then we called the TTS and put a bid on a contact with them. We figured if the disney waitlist came thru while we waited for ROFR we would just say no (it doesn't require anything like money down to be put on the list) and if we made it through ROFR then we would have our points.
As it turned out we were one of the unlucky ones that got ROFR'd but on the good side disney called the next day and said we got the waitlisted points with them---- (we still think that was a little HMMM :scratchin )
But the TTS returned our check to us for escrow in about 2-3 days.
So it was a roller coaster ride but we did wind up with what we wanted in the end.
Now we can't wait to 'Go Home' for the second time in 3 weeks!!!
Good luck whatever you decide!
