:goodvibes Awhile back I saw postings regarding Zenni(?) Glasses, but I wasn't able to find it. Has anybody used them recently? I think there was mention of needing to know a measurement about your pupils(?) I just got a Rx filled for transition glasses at Costco and they offered $25 off if you bought a second pair, but that just isnt in my budget. If I could get something reasonable at Zenni, I might consider it. On my Costco receipt there were some numbers that were not on my script from Dr. R: Dist PD 28.0 L: Dist PD 29.0
Does anyone know if that is the number for the pupil measurement? Any info will be appreciated! TIA Grammy

yes the PD is the number u need, look on zennis website and it will tell u which one u need

I used to work as a receptionist for an eye doctor a long time ago, but I think that I remember PD as being the pupil measurement. I believe that they measure how far your pupil is frrom the bridge of your nose so that the glasses are made properly. The lens should be centered over the pupil that is why they measure everyone individually. I am not a doctor. I hope this helps. :)

I get DH's glasses from Zenni. He is rough with them, and at 12 bucks each, you can't beat it.

You will need the PD (pupilary distance) to order. It looks like your RX has the PD for each eye - you need a bigger number, most likely in the high 50's or low 60's. I guess you can add the 28 and 29 together, too which makes your PD 57. I'm not a doc, nor am I an official tech, but I have worked in a optometrists office...

ANYWAY - just for future reference, you can measure this yourself by looking in the mirror and using a dry erase marker to mark the area of your frames above your pupils and measure the distance between in millimeters.

Or just go back to Costco, or even at the WalMart eye center, and ask the tech to do your PD's. They use a little machine and it take about 5 seconds.

Good luck!

Also, if you do order your glasses from Zenni, be sure to look at your current glasses for the size. The size is usually listed on the bridge and will be something like 49/18. The length of your temples is listed on the temple. These numbers are important for the fit of your glasses. Zenni lists all the sizes of each pair of frames.

I wish I knew about this place. I just picked up my daughters glasses and we are waiting on her sunglasses. I did get her sunglasses at BJ's for $98 which was very good considering every one else wanted double that and some.

I've had good luck with Zenni, it was the only online optical store that would do my weird prescription. The Glassyeyes blog helped a ton with info on how to measure, which site is best, who has a promo going on, etc. I highly recommend that blog to get you started.

I had my opthamalogist confirm the script in my Zenni glasses and they were spot on. He was a cyncic when I said I was going to try them due to the nature of my script. Afterward, he was shocked at how good of a job they did. The hardest part is picking a pair that will look good on you, IMO. It's so hard to tell just by looking on the site. I did end up with one pair I absolutely hate.

I wish I had known about Zenni before Monday! uggh,
my dd's script changed slightly and she wanted to keep her current frames so to replace the lenses only is costing my $165!!
our insurance only pays for glasses every 2 years, so this year she wasn't eligible!!

I was able to use the insurance for mine, I only needed a pr of reading glasses.........I had to pay a portion of the frame cost only...........they allow $150 and you pay 80% of the amount above that, so I ended up having to pay $65. not bad, but still now when I see Zenni I could scream, and I can't cancel the eye doc order at this point, I am sure its already in progress!

I put off ordering from Zenni for a long time. I wasn't sure that progressive lens would be done correctly. I finally ordered last month and they are perfect. I ordered another pair just this week. Each pair with progressive lens were under $50. Last time I got "inexpensive frames" and lens from eye doctor it was over $300.

I ordered from Zenni thanks to this board and got my "special" (thin lens) glasses for under $40 shipped! I was elated. I told a coworker and she ordered a pair too, which she loves.

I use mine mostly for nighttime before bed, so I don't wear them much, but so far they have been awesome.

The frames I ordered actually came in two colors, purple and black was shown in the picture and looked cool, but I guess the "default" was a baby pink... I didn't notice this until I opened the box and had light pink glasses (not really my style). Of couse, I went back on the website and realized my mistake:rolleyes:. Be sure to double check this, so you don't do the same thing:thumbsup2.

I'll probably order another pair from Zenni thats more "professional" for daytime wear, but the glasses themselves are great (mine are a plastic frame, but my coworker got a cute metal frame I might try out next).
