Need Budget DC Trip Help Fast

I would look as far away as Springfield or (in the other direction) Bethesda. My sister and I stayed in both areas when we were there in Oct to participate in a MS medical study at the NIH. We stayed at the Doubletree Bethesda on Rockville Pike Rd while doing the study, then moved over to Springfield to stay with my Uncle (who works at the Pentagon) and Aunt for the a few days following the study. The study coordinator mentioned there was a nearby Metro station by the NIH/Hotel, although we didn't use it. The Springfield station was about 30-35 minute trip, going past the Pentagon and Arlington on the way into DC. Both areas were nice.

If you use Hotwire or Priceline, I would def recommend expanding your search to these areas if you are on a budget.

Have fun!!

If you want to save $$ as the previous poster mentioned, look in Silver Spring or Rockville MD. It will take you about 30 minutes on the subway, but the areas and price should be what you want. For example, take a peek at the Sherraton at the Shady Grove metro.
I would not want to stay as far away as Rockville or Springfield if the events you're going for are in DC early in the morning. You want to be right there. It's not as bad traffic-wise on the weekends, but during the week that would be a long drive. I live 30 miles away from DC and the best I can drive from home to office on off-hours is 45 minutes.

There's no need to stay so far away when there are reasonably priced hotels much closer.

I did a search on Hotwire and I'm getting plenty of hotels for under $100.

Also searched LMTClub.com (use promo code "JPOSTCLUB" for free 1 yr membership) and found the Holiday Inn Rosslyn for $65. I've stayed here before and it is in a fantastic location--just on the other side of the Potomac in Arlington 1 block from the metro with free parking.

You have all given me so much to research. I truly appreciate it. My daughter will be staying with the team right downtown but my husband, son and I are tagging along to be supportive. We are making sure she gets the complete experience and we are settling the affordable experience. :)

Sounds like a perfect plan! Have a great time, and best of luck to your daughter and her team!

Hampton Inn Springfield VA. I stay there every year and I've never paid as much as $125 a night. Close to metro station, free breakfast, free parking and very pleasant staff. Also pet friendly, which is why we started staying there.
My daughter's 8th grade class won an engineering competition (last weekend) that is sending them to Washington DC for Nationals over the President's Day weekend in February. This was not a planned expense and there's not much time to save, so we just have to cut corners where we can. The competition is being held at the Capital Hilton (out of our budget range). We would like a hotel close or as near as possible that is NOT more than $125/night and in a good area. We travel a lot and although we aren't very familiar with DC, we aren't afraid to use the local transit system. Any help will be appreciated. TIA.[/QUOTE

I live in the area and Crystal City would be a great place to stay. It's really close to the District and metro=accessible. My recommendation is the Marriott Crystal City Gateway. It's $129/nt or $139 with parking. The metro is attached to the hotel! If you know anyone who works for Marriott that can give you the Friends/family form, it's only $69/nt!

Have fun! DC is a great place to visit.
