Need birthday party ideas for 10 y.o. girl

Wow! Hotels here do the same, but it costs over $200 (for less time).

Thats crazy, it would be cheaper to just rent the room and just not stay there.

OP, I was supposed to do the hotel party last year for my dd11 but things didn't work out so we never did. She is BEGGING me to do it for her this year.

I don't have a house big enough to host a party of a bunch of kids, (plus I have a HUGE dog) nor do I have the cash to go to one of those "organized" parties and a place that most of the other kids do that costs hundreds for a party. I ALSO had the problem of my DD's birthday being in December, so a party out in the yard was never an option.

We did a party around the age of 10-12 (don't recall) where we went to the mall with a couple of disposable cameras. They divided into 2 teams (there were only about 6-8 girls total) and we had a photo-scavenger hunt. It was so fun. We did stuff like take your picture with a security guard, with something fuzzy, something pink, crazy shoes, something tie-died, etc. We made sure we knew where there was a 1-hour photo and we developed the pics quickly and the grown-ups who were there "judged".

So for the price of a couple of disposable cameras, some pizza at the food court, 1 hour developing and a few party bags -- it was loads of fun. The girls remembered that for a LONG time.

I think that if a bunch of kids happened to be in the pool, they would ask what room they were in, and since only 4 guests are allowed in hotel rooms, they'd be kicked out.

This is a great idea!! :thumbsup2

We've decided to do the pool party at the hotel. So much for going cheap though. She goes to a very small school so its hard to invite only a few girls as the feelings will get seriously stepped on. So we'll invite a total of 15 girls (I know 2 definitely won't come as they never come to anything). Then I will have 2 other adults stay the night with me. So I'm going to reserve 4 hotel rooms!! :scared1: I was able to get a really great rate at the local Ramada for $65 a room which is why I agreed to this.

I priced out a bowling party, an art studio party and a beading party. Each one was a minimum of $20 pp before tax and mandatory gratuity. So I figure that this will work out to about the same price. Hotel already told me we could have a pizza/birthday party at the pool. DH will bring in the pizza and cake. I'll have snacks for the connecting rooms (figure 2 rooms won't even be used but I need them for sheer number of girls coming). I'm also inviting the 4 boys in her class for the pool party part but I'm not sure if they'll come. The only extra we'll have at the pool is my nephew, BIL, and DSDs at the party part. I'm sending all boys and older DSDs home. I don't believe the hotel will get upset about an extra 10 guests hanging by the pool. If they do then I'll offer to pony up for an additional room but I don't think it will come to that. DSDs won't swim. I'm only really looking at 3 or 4 non-guests swimming. The hotel is a business hotel and the guy was really excited when I told him I wanted to book a weekend.

I'll rent a few movies from the Redbox thingie at the local Wal-Mart. There is a free continental breakfast the next morning. So the extras are only the pizza and the snacks for the room. I was going to have to buy a cake and party supplies anyway.

Thanks for all the great ideas! DD's eyes really lit up when she heard about a hotel party. Wait until I get home and tell her that she can have it!!

Thats a great rate! Its also great that you are having all the girls stay- I cant stand when people invite kids to a party and then the "chosen few" get to sleep over when the others are all sent home- I think that is very rude- people say "oh the other kids don't know that so and so are staying after for a sleepover"--but they are kidding themselves, the kids talk and the others feel badly. Its sort of like- you are good enough to come to the party and give a gift but not good enough to stay over.

I agree with the above post. My dd went to a swimming party/sleepover and some of the girls were not invited to stay overnight, although my dd was. She said it was awkward when the other girls found out. Younger dd is having a party at the movies next weekend and we are only inviting some of the girls in her class. I feel bad about that, but she said some of the girls are mean and are not her friends.
And maybe some of the girls parents will opt to have them just come to swim and not stay overnight. I always make that an option on the inivitations with my girls' parties and my girl scout events. Some kids/parents are not comfortable with sleepovers.

OP- the party sounds great!! Hope you all have a wonderful time!

I know. I would feel horrible if the kids she sees every day are slighted. She does have problems with 2 of the girls that are invited but there are only 7 girls total in her class. To exclude those 2 would really cause more trouble for her in the long run. So even though she doesn't actually want them there she figures that there will be enough girls to act as a buffer.

As the girls are all 4th and 6th grade I'm hoping that they can spend the night. But if they don't want to they can certainly just come for the pool party. I actually set a time for the pool section where we will have pizza and cake. This way if parents want to pick them up at the end of that the girls won't feel as if they're missing anything.

And DD is so completely ecstatic now! I got "This is the best birthday party ever!" And then she sprang on me that she wants her cake from Carlo's in Hoboken, home of the famous "The Cake Boss" show. Love the cakes but wayyy expensive. I might call for a price tomorrow but we might end up at Costco for that one! There little 8" round is $45. I think I'll end up with sticker shock for a quarter sheet. :scared1:

Thanks again for all the great ideas!
