Please...any ideas would be appreciated. DD just turned 12.

My DD is having a sleepover on Friday (4/21) with 4 other girls. The plan was to go see a movie, come back here, have pizza, maybe a bonfire (we're out in the country) and then shoo the girls home by noon on Saturday.

Now that the schedule is out, DD and some of the friends want to see Scary Movie 4. There are 2 moms that will not let their DD's see this movie. That is fine by me. I told DD that if all the parents said OK, that would be fine, but they didn't.

My DD's best friend doesn't want to see IceAge 2 or The Wild, they've already seen some of the other movies out. There are no other movie theater options.

So, now we need to have a Plan B.

My idea to DD is just make it a movie night at our house. Instead of dropping a wad at blockbuster, have every girl bring a movie or two from their house, i.e. one that they like to watch. And then, the girls will have somewhere between 5 and 10 movies to watch.

I was very specific to DD. There just can't be any food/beverages in the family room, or the bedroom where they will be sleeping. These are house rules - (this rule has been in place for 2 years and the 2 year old carpeting still looks new ;) )

I just wish there was something else "to do" but I just am drawing a blank.

If anyone has ideas to offer...that would be great. There is a water park sort of nearby, but most of the girls were there yesterday for one of their b-days. The bowling alleys here are really smokey, and I don't know if there is open bowling on Friday nights anyway. The mini-golf places near here aren't even open yet for the season.

As always...I appreciate any help!

What if they go to a pottery store and hand paint something. Maybe they can get something similar to each others to paint.

Go to an ice cream parlor, or horse back riding.

I vote with you on movie nite at the house...we did last year for DDs 11th b-day...we also had "Make your own sundaes" & each girl got to keep her special sundae glass.

Another time...we did the "Gifts in a jar" - we did chocolate cookie mixes --the girls loved these more than anything --I think because most of the girls had never done anything like it & neither had their moms.

BTW....
Good for you for your no drinks/food rule in the family room & bedroom!!

We have the same rule...food & drink ONLY in the kitchen...and my 2 year old carpeting also looks brand new.

We also don't allow any food/drinks in the car either. LOVE IT!!

Here are some idea
tie dye shirts
make mini scrapbooks
make your own pizzas with cool toppings such as hot dogs
make your own ice cream sundaes or decorate cookies
rent or borrow a karaoke machine
have a Hollywood/Titanic night where all the girls dress up/watch Titanic/ and eat a fancy meal
50's night rent the movie Grease/hula hoop contests/drink floats/gum blowing contests
decorate their pillow cases for the sleepover

My DD turned 12 in February and we had a great party! We took the girls to SyKart racetrack. They spent 20 minutes in a driving track and then went on to race the cars. It was the first time for all of them which made it extra special - of course now they want to do it again! I think there's an indoor racetrack in just about every major city now just check the yellow pages under gokarts.

I knew I could count on my friends!

While DD loves pottery painting (we did that for her last party) the party was great, but she's been there and done that.

DD loves to horseback ride, but we need more of a nighttime activity.

She really loves the tie-dye idea, as well as make your own pizzas. If we did this, she is considering pillowcases, t-shirts or bandanas to tiedye.  (smiley is courtesy of DD). I love the tie-dye idea, because we've got TONS of it laying around! I just need to get whatever we are dying! :hippie:

The go karts sound like fun - to me - but DD doesn't have much interest in them.

I looked into rockwall climbing, but they need 2 weeks advance notice for b-day parties.

I love the sundea idea, and will file that away for a different year. We've already got a custard b-day cake planned with M&M flavored custard.

Thanks!!!

I would be careful about having friends bring movies since it sounds like some of the families have stricter rules about what is allowed.

If you get the movies, you have greater control over what they will watch.

I think hanging around outside the bonfire would be fun.

How about spliting the girls up in two groups and have them put together skits for each other. Give both groups a theme and have them make up a five minute skit. Put out some dress up clothes, hats, makeup... and video tape them.
Later they can watch each other and have a laugh and enjoy themselves.

How about a fondue set?

My sister had a very memorable sleepover around that age- due to one game: truth or dare

My mom sort of set up ground rules like if you didn't want to answer the truth question asked, you can ask for another one (or something like that). dares had to be safe... that sort of thing. She also came up with a list of "truth's" and a list of "dare's" that way in case girls got stuck they could look at the list.

Two of the more memorable dares were "I dare you to go under the paddywack" where all of us stood with our legs spread in a line and the person had to crawl between our legs and we hit her rear (gosh we were a mess of giggles) and someone dared my sister (the birthday girl) to run around outside (in her pjs, in the dark) singing "happy birthday to me" at the top of her lungs. :teeth:

Everyone was still innocent enough  ;)

What about a Spa type party. The girls could do manicures and pedicures and they could do some updo's or something. Maybe have goody bags for the girls with nail polish, lotions, hair stuff???

I love the spa idea!!! And I know my DSD, who is 12, would love something like that!

We did a Scavenger Hunt at the local mall which was an absolute blast! It was absolutely perfect for that age and her friends loved it............. in fact, another mom called and offered to pay me to do one for her DD! It really wasn't very hard to set up. You can PM me for specifics and ideas if you're interested.

FUN Scavenger Hunt we did on DD's 12th b'day...

We loaded the girls in the car and gave them a clue (no teams, all worked together). They had to figure out where we needed to go. Once there, they posed for a polaroid photo together. Then on to the next clue and so on. The end was an ice cream place to pick up the cake (we also had a stop for slushies at a drive-in burger place in the middle) but it could be anything...the drugstore for nail polish, Blockbuster for movies, etc.

Some places we went were: The park in the dark - they LOVED it, Target to all fit in one grocery cart - everyone had to at least have one foot in somewhere, one of the girl's homes (pre-arranged with mom) to get in her bathtub, the drive-in burger joint where they absolutely tortured the cute car-hop and had picture taken with him, etc...

All the girls got to keep one of the photos.

FLIP FLOPS...have the fabric strips ready and colored flip flops and let the girls tie the fabric on to make those "fuzzy" shoes - they love it and can't have too many! Great to do during a movie

SKITS...split the girls into two groups (draw numbers!) and hand each group a bag of strange stuff you've collected around the house. They must use all of their stuff in a skit and perform for the others. We ALWAYS do this and they insist on trading bags and doing it again and again!

"Dirty Santa" or whatever...I collected cheap (Target $1 Spot, Claire's sales, etc.) stuff and wrapped them up. The girls drew numbers and chose their gifts/steals, etc. They really enjoyed it but were WAY too nice. After the game is when the traded!

Good luck and have fun! :)

Dizagain...the scavenger hunt sounds like fun. Unfortunately, we live in about the middle of nowhere. (i.e. I am picking up the cake tomorrow on my lunch hour, this is 2 miles from where I work, but 25 miles from home.) We would need 2 vehicles, since I can only have 4 other passengers in my car. Target (or Walmart, or any other type of store) is about 10 miles away.

I'll have to file this idea for next year. Do you have an example of a clue to share?

My DD is a flip-flop queen, but they JUST did flip-flops at the waterpark b-day party she was on Monday. And, 3 of the 5 girls are the same.

We actually have decided on Tie-dye for a craft, "bring your favorite movie", make your own pizza's as well as getting the fixin's for s'mores in case we can do a bonfire. I've heard the mini-golf place opened up, but, again that would be weather permitting (right now, t-storms are predicted). I'm not worried about Sat. morning, the girls will sleep until about 10, and by the time we get them some pancakes for breakfast, it'll be close to noon.

Now - my bigger dilemma is the gift bags. I'm thinking a movie theme, including a $10 or so GC for the movie place. I really feel bad about not getting them to the movie, and it is money we would have spent anyway. DD suggested getting the blockbuster microwave popcorn buckets, and some candy too. Part of me says the giftcard in a giftbag is excessive, the other part says we promised them a movie - most of them would just use them for a group outing to the theater anyway.

Wow--a $10 gift card and whatever they tie-dye??? You are too generous, I think!!! I would do the small popcorn box filled with 1 movie rental, microwave popcorn, theatre size candy and stuff their tie-dyed thing into it. Voila! You're done. :thumbsup2

Hi! Well, I LOVE to write these things for some reason. I can't remember them, but I just wrote one for the park we went to...Kid's Castle:

"This is a place where kids are king-
But ALL of you have to fit on one swing!"

I also think the $10 gift card plus tie-dye craft is way generous. I like the single movie rental idea above! :)
