We will be staying in Disney World for one week in December, I need advice on if we should take a few days and go to Universal too. I have an 8yr boy and 6yr girl. My husband has never been to Universal, I have been but its been years ago when I was 12 and I am 31 now. The tickets would end up costing us around 500 dollars, and my husband feels like we have spent enough already, and that are kids are too little to really enjoy everything there. What are your opinions and advise? Thanks.

Your situation sounds very similar to mine. Our kids are the same age as yours and have never been to Universal. I too have never been, and the last time DH was there was about 20 years ago. So I went back and forth on whether we should go, if the kids are a good age, etc. etc. Needless to say I just ordered our tickets this morning. Yes, I found the price hard to swallow as well - but I gave in. It's something new for us to enjoy, and I have a feeling we'll love it there (especially DS and DH).

I say go for it! :woohoo:

My advice would be to add a couple days to your trip and stay at one of the on site hotels. Visiting the parks with this benefit is a great experience. We did this in early december two years back and found it wonderfully relaxing, and super fun! My best themepark experience ever. The universal parks are great, plenty for kids to do, lots of theming. The only rides the kids will likely be too short for are Dragon Challenge and Hulk. The 6 year old may not be tall enough for the Harry Potter ride.

Thanks guys the advise! I was looking earlier and they have the hotels with tickets options that isn't that much more than just the tickets. Now i just have to convince my hubby!

I had the same dilemma, although my kids are younger. We decided not to visit Universal. We felt WDW offered so many extra things for the holidays that we didn't want to miss......visiting resorts, Epcot countries, Osborne lights, MVMCP. Plus, we just didn't want to be crazy busy right before the holidays so we passed and are just going to enjoy WDW even more. Good luck with your decision.

Thanks, thats my husbands point of view that Disney offers so much that we don't need to spend the extra money on Universal, we plan on doing the Christmas Party also.

I forgot to add....in Dec they have lots of Christmas stuff going on include the Macy's day parade and don't miss all the Christmas stuff going on in Suess Land, including the grinch show. Not to be missed!

I think it depends on a few things:
1) How many times have you been to Disney? Disney is so big, that if this is your first time(or close to first time) then I say go only to Disney. It will be more than enough. On the other hand, if you have been to Disney lot of times, it might be fun to branch out.

2) How badly do YOU want to see things at Universal? DH and I are huge HP fans (along with the kids) so our trip to Universal was as much for us as it was for them.

3) How brave are your kids? Yes, there are things for the little ones to do, but it's not like Disney where there are a bunch of "medium" intensity rides that the family can enjoy together. My DD7 absolutely loves Universal/ IOA, but she is pretty brave - her favorite Disney rides are Space Mountain and Mission Space.

4) Do they have a particular interest in the characters at UO? DD7 was over the moon meeting Scooby and Shaggy and Sponge Bob as they are her two current favorite shows.
