Need advice

I called WDW to extend my reservation a day and there is no availability at the resort I am at. Would you change resorts for one day or just stick with the original plan? I am at GDT and could move to POR or POFQ for the last nite.

I would stick with the original plan. Moving resorts is not something I'm willing to do.

Well that’s a question no one can answer but you. Why do you want to extend it? Another park day? Will you need to change flights? Will staying cause a problem with returning to work or school?

I have changed resorts for a night before. Changing resorts isn’t that big a deal to me. I pack up & leave what I will need for the single night all together in the luggage. Bell services will move the luggage.... we go on with our day & show up at the new resort later in the day. The biggest concern is your room may not be ready til later in the day.

We have never changed our plans once they are set because I don’t change flights once booked. And my original plans always account for when we need to return to work. Once we’re retired in a few years we might be more flexible & open to moving things around, but right now we are always committed to our dates.

It's in Dec so I don't have my flight yet so that's no problem. Work is no problem either - I can put in for another day off. Yes - want to extend my park days after reading all the problems with HS crowds. I have moved resorts before so its no problem. Right now I just need to figure out what I really want to do that last extra nite. That may determine my decision. I guess I was trying to figure out if its something someone else would do or if its a stupid idea. lol

I would switch for a night. But I'd also keep checking, someone is bound to cancel before December and then you might be able to get the room you need!

I'd lock in the reservation at PO and check back in with WDW periodically to see if a room at GDT has become available. People cancel reservations all the time.

I agree with Scubadaddy32, get a reservation at PO and call once a week to get that last night at GDT. December is 9 months away something should open up. Good luck !

We had a similar situation for an upcoming trip. It's 5 nights, but I could only get a discount at Poly for 4 of those nights. I ended up reserving AKL savannah for one night at the end of the trip. I then reconfigured our park plans a little so our resort switch day will be our AK day. I'm not looking forward to packing up and moving, but my DS12 is looking forward to seeing the animals at AKL and I've reduced travel time a little by making AK that day's park plans.

As PPs have said, I would book what is available now and just keep checking. Inventory changes constantly.

Switching for the last night could be a good way to see a new resort you haven't stayed at before(may not be the case for you if you have stayed there before). DD and I did that last time to check out AoA. Since you'd pack up to leave, you could just leave out what you needed for last day and keep it in a carry-on/smaller bag if you wanted to not have to repack. Since Disney moves luggage for you, it is fairly easy - can just call bell services to come up, and they will tag luggage and move it out. Some people take an afternoon break and go check-in so they are set when they return at the end of the night. Agree w/PP above - since you know you want another night, book it and then try to modify if night pops up at your current location.

I actually am doing something similar in a couple of weeks. Airfare was much cheaper flying back a day later, but there was no availability at AKL Jambo for that last night. I dislike having to move, but I went ahead and grabbed the last 2 nights at Kidani (switching my former last Jambo night to Kidani and adding the new night) so at least I’d have a chance to enjoy Kidani w/out the rush of checking in only to check out less than 24 hr.s later.

DisneyWishes14 - you will love it! We were able to do this through a friend who sold us DVC points for an incredible price and surprised kids - DD was 10 and has always wanted to be a vet(still planning on it now own as a Jr. in HS!) and we are big animal lovers, and did not want to leave our balcony! Lobby is amazing - would stay there every trip if we could afford it! I suggest requesting a room on Sunset Savannah and higher floor.
