Hi!
we have just booked our 5 day Wonder cruise to Grand Cayman. First time there so we would like to visit as much of the island as possible. So my question is, should we rent a car there or look for a private tour operator who will let us determine what we want to see as opposed to them bringing us places we may not really want to see. Or should we just take a taxi to places we want to visit? Would love your input...
thanks!

They do drive on the "wrong" (left) side of the road. For one day, I would just get a tour rather than have to adapt to that. YMMV.

We did the shipwreck and reef snorkel and then took the bus (van) for $2.50 each to the turtle farm. DCL does have some good packages with different things to do. I wouldn't recommend doing it on your own unless you are familiar with the island and their driving styles. Watch out for chickens....they are everywhere!

We just rented a van/driver at the port. A lot of locals make their living doing private tours that way. They know when the ships will be in port and show up in numbers. When you negotiate the price (usually per person) you can share with another family to keep the cost down. Our driver was familiar with the island and took us anywhere we wanted to go. Much simpler and faster than catching a shuttle to a car rental place, renting then returning the car then getting back to the ship in time.

thank you everyone. We have been to Barbados a few times and they drive on the wrong side there too and my hubby did great! so that isn't really an issue :thumbsup2
I guess we may just hire a cab and ask him to drive us around. My other concern was that we get there on a Sunday, so there might not be too many cabs out there that day.
