Hi all...

I'm wanting to get in shape and am a disney-phile (well duh..I found this place didn't I??).

Anyway...I want to participate in the Princess 1/2 next year (a 1/2 marathon would justify the expense of getting down there and staying...a 5K I can do right here in Atlanta).

Well, it is 10 monthsout ...and I would be going from couch potato to half marathon...so I have some questions.

1. For those of you on the more 'cuddly' side of things...can you maintain the 16 minute mile pace?
2. Anyone else here gone from couch to 1/2 marthon? How did you do it? Any advice?

I've got the doctor's on board, pending a stress test next week. Any other advice you could give would be welcome.

Thanks gang!

Soupy, you'll find that we are all shapes and sizes here and "cuddly" sized WISHers can most definitley keep teh pace for the half.

Dh and I went from not much better than couch to full marathon in 10 minths. Not easy adn I don't recommend it, but just want you to know that i think couch to half is fully do-able.

KeenerCam went from barely able to move to heart surgery. After her surgery, she trained fro a complted WDW 1/2 in 12 months. :goodvibes She is an inspiration to us all!

Anyway, many of us used Marathoning fro Mortals (MfM) by John "The Penguin" Bingham for inspiration and training. I highly recommended it. Amazon usually has the best price.

Please be sure to pop in to the weekly trianing thread and share your training with us. WHile many of us have completed a few halves adn fulls, we love to support new people as they train and live vicariously through their first times. ;)

Welcoem to WISH team adn good luck with our training! We're here for questions or victory celebrations along the way!

Welcome Soupy!

Another :thumbsup2 for Bingham's Marathoning for Mortals. I used it to train from a couch potato to the WDW 2006 1/2 successfully. This is a great place to find encouragement and support and we are all ages, shapes, and abilities.

W.I.S.H. gave me the courage to start....it's one of the sayings you will see here, and it is very true for me. One of the hardest parts was believing that my (then) 50 yr old couch potato self could even attempt a 1/2, but guess what - I did it. You can too! Hope to see you in March!!

hi, i havent completed a 1/2 yet, but i did Minnie and i was just fine (just over 15 min/mile pace overall). this was my first race and i was recovering from surgery that was about 2 months ago.

i'm very fluffy...

i say go for it. i am currently training for Chicago full in October and will start Marathon for Mortals in a couple of weeks. i plan to walk Chicago and walk/run Disney in January.

good luck! :)

I'm definately "cuddly" and finished both the half and the full! Keep walking, smiling and checking in here to remain motivated and driven and you'll reach the finish line!:goodvibes :dance3:
