Quite by accident today, we discovered that Marriott's Cypress Harbour went completely smoke free on June 1. I am a smoker (no flames please) and really have no desire to go to the parking lot for a smoke (especially in a typical Florida afternoon thunderstorm). I don't smoke inside, but do enjoy sitting on the patio/balcony with a cup of coffee or adult beverage. They have many buildings and used to have a few where they allowed smoking, but that has changed. We've had our reservation since April, but they didn't bother to notify us.

I have scoured many threads about other condos, but have not gotten a "warm and fuzzy" feeling about any of them. We have a DS14 who likes to rent a bike a few times, loves the pool, and we like to just "veg out" and order pizza some nights (instead of cooking), so we would prefer something similar. The closest thing I've seen is Sheraton Vistana, but the reviews seemed to be pretty mixed (here on the DIS and on Tripadvisor). I've looked at renting a private condo or home, but DS isn't too keen on the idea.

We are scheduled to fly down next Friday (8/15), so we have a very tight timeframe to find something different. If you have experience with something you think we might like, I would really appreciate hearing about it.

Thanks.

I thought it was a Flordia state law?

It's probably a state law that prohibits smoking in public buildings, restaurants, etc., but I don't think it applies to hotel rooms, and other living accommodations. I was able to find availability at the Hilton Grand Vacation Club (in a smoking unit), but unfortunately they only have a one bedroom unit and we're trying to find at least a 2 bedroom.

Did you check to make sure you cant smoke on your balcony. i am staying at parkway international and the rooms are smoke free but they said there is no problem with smoking on the balcony/patio of your condo

how about the Fort Wilderness Cabins?? I know that you are allowed to smoke on the deck just a thought good luck

Thanks for the idea, however.......

When I spoke with the manager a couple of days ago, she specifically said no smoking on the patio or balcony, only near the parking lot.

Good luck with your search and no flames but..

Please consider your children having to take care of you when you are older.. I have been trying to get my dad to quit since I was 5. (I am 41 now). I pleaded, begged, threw his cigarettes away, etc. I am currently having to take care of him. He is on oxygen 24 hours a day. He broke his leg and because of his lung situation he wasn't really able to do the physical therapy needed and is now in a wheelchair and no longer able to drive. His bones are really porous and he has several back stress fractures. He is only 65.. To be honest, I'm a little mad that I am having to suffer for his poor choices and take care of him along with my own children (13, 11 and 6). I am also sad.. No flames, honest. He smoked for 40 years and I saw him really struggle with quitting, but think about the consequences for your children... Please, please, please.:sad1:

disney has changed their policy.

you are only surpose to smoke in certain areas - it tells you on the map.

to smoke some other place risks a fine and being asked to leave.

now for the values you are fine - there places are pretty close to the rooms. but some of the deluxes are not that close to the room.

I stayed at the campground all summer. My extended family visited in July and stayed in a cabin. They were told at check in that if they smoked they must do it on the deck and not in the cabin. When did they change the rule? Peopled smoked at my site all the time and I saw people loop lapping on the carts while smoking. Unless the rules changed after my last check in on July 26, you could still smoke most places in the campground.
