Just found this board, so I hope y'all can help me make a decision.

I have a family of 5 with children ages 8, 8, and 6.

The options are Port Orleans, the Beach Club Resort, or the Yacht Club and Boardwalk Inn.

The deluxe choices are about $1000 mor than the moderate.

First question is, is it worth the extra money?

Second question, Which of the listed deluxe choices is best?

Thanks for the help.

Since we don't know how much money you have or how much you value the services offered at the deluxe properties, it would be very hard for us to determine the "worth" of one hotel over another for you.

For me, it is worth it to have everything under one roof, plus valet and room service and all that jazz. But there isn't anything wrong with either of the Port Orleans resorts. You really can't go wrong.

If the $1000 is a big deal, you can skip the hotel and won't be terribly disappointed, I don't think.

I prefer the Beach Club to either Yacht or BWI. But that's more a personal preference.

I have switched resorts during my stay two times and I just hated it. It is a pain and a time-sucker and may leave you "homeless" for an afternoon. My advice is always to pick a place and stick with it.

Good luck with your decision!

Beach Club and Yacht Club are within walking distance to Epcot and Hollywood Studios (tough to HS it's a little further walk). About a 10 minute walk from the Yacht Club to Epcot. The boat ride to HS was very convenient. Stayed at the Yacht Club, not that impressed with mousekeeping or the friendliness of the staff. But it was in an excellent location, BC is even closer to Epcot and has more kid-friendly restaurants and snack locations.

We felt we made better use of our time just because of where the YC was located. We could spend all day at AK, for instance, come back to the hotel for a bit, then just walk right over to Epcot in the evening for illuminations or a quick boat to HS for Fantasmic. This time saver was worth it for us!

Good Luck.

Out of these deluxes, I would definitely pick Beach Club. Besides the convenience of the location, it has Stormalong Bay, which is a great pool. Your kids will love the pool so much that they won't want to do anything else. Also, the Beach Club seems to be so kid friendly. DH and I prefer the Yacht Club, which also shares the Stormalong Bay pool, for it's quietness (less children there) but we liked the CM's, layout, etc at Beach Club better.

Is a deluxe worth the extra $1000? That's a personal preference. We stayed at a mod once (POFQ) and although it was okay, it's just not us. However, I can totally understand others who feel that it's a waste of money for a deluxe. I don't think anybody other than you and your family can make that call.

If it were me, with the ages of the children I would go for the cheaper resort. I'd rather put that money into fun things to do during my stay. Like renting boats or bikes and maybe an extra Character Meal.
You also have the choice of the family suites at the Allstar Music, it will certainly give you more room than the POR. There are also the Ft Wilderness Cabins.

I just cant justify the extra $$ for a deluxe resort. Some of the amenities of the deluxe resorts are nice but I am sure that three kids would much rather have souviners than an on site restaurant for a sit down dinner. I have stayed at Port Orleans and the pool area is really neat - the kids will love it!!

Well....to us, the deluxe resorts you listed are worth the extra money. This is why: we have toddlers and a double jogger and love love love the option of walking back and forth to both Epcot and HS/MGM. To us, nothing beats watching Illuminations at Epcot or Fantasmic at HS/MGM and then being able to walk back to our resort without all the crowds or hassles. We have stayed at all 3 of your options, and we like the BC the best. Reason is mainly because of the ages of our kids (age 4, twins). They love the sandy-bottom pool and all the mounds of sand and shallow water to play in. This keeps them busy for hours. Some days, we spend the bulk of the day at the pool and then just walk in to Epcot for a nice dinner, rides, and Illuminations, then we walk back to BC and enjoy some ice cream from Beaches & Cream while sitting next to the pool. BC also has a nice character breakfast.

We have been staying at POR-FQ and absolutely love it! It's a good size, nothing is far away and the lizard slide at the pool is awesome. There is also a nice playground. We've never spent the extra $$ on the deluxe because we didn't need the amenities or the extra space, though now that we are DVC members, well....pirate: Bottom line, ask yourself how much time are you REALLY going to spend at the resort and how much space do you think you are reasonably going to need. If you don't mind a standard room and you are pretty much only sleeping, bathing and swimming, spend the extra $$ on the kids! If you need a good bit of space or if you spend a good bit of time at the resort, go for BW or BC. You may also want to check out the rent/trade boards on DVC threads as you may be able to get a better deal for BW or BC than going through WDW or another travel agency.

As a family of 5 POFQ is not an option for you. You could stay at the sister resort POR in the AB section where Disney will allow you to have 5. But my vote would be for either Yacht or Beach Club. The kids will love the pool, they may not want to leave the pool to go to the parks. ;)

Remember the bed at POR is a trundle bed and the other beds are full not queen. The resort is beautiful but there is no balcony (I like the extra room the balcony seems to give)
