Need advice on what to do about May UT tickets

I originally had a family trip planned for 11 of us in May. I have 4 basic 5 day tickets and 3 "4 Park Magic" tickets with start dates on May 15 that were purchased from UT. (Others were purchased directly from Disney.) I've rescheduled the trip to July, so my fastpass window will open the early part of May before the tickets would expire if unused, and one family member with a 4 Park Magic ticket can no longer go. Here are my questions:

1.) If I wait it out, will the tickets automatically change dates to Dec. 15 if the parks are still closed in May, or is that only happening with tickets purchased directly from Disney? (I know if I do this I miss out on the start of the fastpass window.) Does the date change only happen once the date has passed?
2.) My 4 Park Magic tickets aren't going to work ideally for our new trip plans in July, but I don't see a way online to modify them like I do on the basic 5 day tickets. I need to change both the date and the type of ticket. Will Disney modify those over the phone for me or do I have to go through UT?
3.) Should I just try to get a refund on all the tickets from UT and simply repurchase with the new dates needed to be able to make my fastpasses as early as possible? (I've read there is a restocking fee, so I realize I need to factor that cost into my plans.)

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read and respond to my many questions!

I filed chargebacks with my credit card company for my tickets in May; I have tried for the last month to get UT to refund park tickets to no avail. Their voicemail box is always full, and you cant leave a message. Email resulted in canned responses from no real employees. Went to corporate management at the ticket office at WDC as well. They are also trying to contact UT. CC company should take care of it. Parks are closed through June. Chargeback filed for services unable to be rendered/fulfilled.

Oh, wow! That is so disappointing!

Walt Disney World Resort tickets don't lose their value. If you have an unused multi-day ticket that has been impacted by the current closures, please see updates below. You will be able to book your FastPass+ reservations on My Disney Experience up to 30 days (or 60 days for on-site guests) in advance of each day of your theme park visit. We recommend using the My Disney Experience website to do this. After you have linked tickets, it may take some time (a few hours up to a few days) before they appear.

  • Unexpired multi-day theme park tickets with unused days, or date-specific theme park tickets with a valid use period between March 12, 2020 through the closure will automatically be extended to use any date through December 15, 2020. If you are unable to visit before December 15, 2020, you may apply the value of a wholly unused ticket toward the purchase of a ticket for a future date through My Disney Experience.
  • For impacted visits, there may be some delay before you see an updated expiration date in My Disney Experience.
  • Once your ticket has been automatically extended for use through December 15, you may begin the FastPass+ reservation process for the date(s) of your visit. Guests staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel can make FastPass+ reservations up to 60 days in advance of check-in for their entire length of stay (up to 14 days), while guests staying off-site can make reservations up to 30 days in advance of each day of their theme park visit.
  • Guests who have purchased tickets for Disney After Hours and Disney Villains After Hours from March 16 through the closure will be automatically refunded.

I would call WDW Ticket Services to see if they can modify the 4-day ticket over the phone. They may tell you only UT can modify them or you can't modify them until you are onsite, but it's worth a try.

Sorry to hear you had so much trouble. I emailed UT on March 13 about returning a ticket, got a form 'request received' immediately, then they replied to me on March 24. I thought about it for a week, and returned it in the mail on April 1. According to my tracking, they received it on April 3, so I am awaiting my refund to process.

Thank you. If I had a little more space between the canceled trip and new trip (or if I didn’t care about missing the 60 day window), it wouldn’t be as big of an issue. I guess it’s worth a phone call at least to UT or Disney to see what they will do. I don’t have high hopes for UT after seeing the other person’s experience. I suppose my last resort would be to repurchase new tickets anyway and use the credit from the expired tickets for another trip later on.

the expiration dates on the tickets will automatically change dates. If you upload them to MDE, they will. This is discussed in other threads on the board.

I had to cancel a room-only reservation with UT this week. I called the 1-800 number. They answered immediately and processed immediately. Super nice. Great to deal with. :thumbsup2

But does that only happen after the date has passed or will it happen any day now (and has the general experience been that all tickets, including UT tickets, change)? For example, my start date is May 15. My fastpass window for the new vacation would open before they expire so I can’t use them to make Fastpasses unless the date is changed. (At least I think that’s what I read.)

This has been my experience with them also. Super nice, answered my calls and no problems getting a refund. My daughter also had the same experience and some of her universal tix were promos and exempt from refunds, but UT refunded them anyway.
OP, our tickets were for the same week and we cancelled a few weeks ago.
